I agree that many people are so progammed that they appear "soul-less," although I'm not sure we can define the word "soul" coherently, and I'm afraid that calling certain people "soul-less" is dangerous for our own humanity. The most tragic expression of inhumanity is the tendency to hunt for witches, which in the past was claimed to be necessary to defeat "Satan's army of demons." Inadequate early education for empathy can explain apparent soul-lessness, without resorting to supernatural categories like "demons" or demonic possession. I think that with enough study and effort, parents can cultivate self-awareness and empathy before kids reach school-age.
