Vashti's Party

in #spirituality7 years ago

The King was in a good mood, the best actually. He did not regret calling for this party, or series of parties rather. The celebration had been on for about seven days. This was the kind of feast that would be talked about for generations and generations. He took a look at his nobles and princes, they had all been impressed with what they had seen so far.

They had seen nothing yet! The king thought to himself. He had saved the best for last! He took one last look at the crowd before him, yes, it was definitely time. It was time to display his most-priced possession. It was time to showcase the one after his very own heart. It was time to show them his wife!
He beckoned on his seven chamberlains and told them to go get her. He relaxed proudly on his throne and told the people to get ready to be impressed.
Ten minutes later, the chamberlains returned with a disappointing reply.

The queen had refused to come!

There was all of a sudden, silence in the banqueting hall. The king could not believe his ears. What a shame! What nonsense! How could she!? How could she deny him her presence just because she was holding her own party?
He stood up in fury and left the hall.

Just like the above story, so many of us treat God the way Vashti treated the king. God boasts about us, says we are the perfect definition of heirs to His Kingdom, sends His Son to come die for us, and is so excited to not only share His Presence with us, but use us as an example to teach others, and also pour His Blessings on us. But when He requires our presence, what does He find?

There we are, smoking, partying, fornicating, telling a lie, stealing and holding our own Vashti party 😩😩

I bet you know what happens afterwards? He goes back disappointed and finds a replacement!
Friends, God should be your number one priority. It is very wrong when God desires your services and talents to be put to use in His House or for promotion of His work, and you are nowhere to be found, just because you are busy with your Vashti party!
He should be our focus and drive. Do not get distracted. Do not go having Vashti parties, be available when He needs you. Stay focused on the Word and let it rule you and I pray we would not be replaced in Jesus' Name!

I hope with this short story of mine, I have been able to convince you and not confuse you that, that God is actually proud of us and we ought nnot to disappoint him by holding our own Vashti Party when He needs us.
