Hermann Hesse, Magnolia, 1928

It is said that the blooming cycle of a magnolia that looks pure and white, a magical flower, a magnificent and huge magnolia like the white pillar of the Atlas is about a day.

Tired, exhausted and being on giving in.

Hesse cites this as a touching expression while observing the huge petals of a magnolia tree in summer bloom and then fade away. And adds that modern civilization is like this.

I agree too.
