Spirituality and children always seems like a distant thing. Especially such that it’s seen that kids are still at a discovery stage and still need learning. Whereas those who are older or senior may seem more proficient and mature and that they’re more adept in spirituality.
This notion may actually not hold true, as spirituality does not hold onto age and how far long one has lived. Spirituality in fact is accessible to all. Children for one, who are connected spirituality would be able to bring out their creativity, talents and ideas with more ease. As well as radiating positivity and cheerfulness. Whereas, those who are older or adults, would very much play roles as healers, counsellors, advisors or visionaries.
Children at a young age, ought to be introduced to spirituality and to be allowed to explore. For if we go by generality and kids being exposed and influenced only by mainstream pop cultures and trends and existing ways, they would be limited in tapping into their potentials. In such scenarios they would be more inclined to look up to those celebrities and figures that are popular and be influenced by their behaviors and attitudes, and also take on what negative traits and shortcoming they may have.
Mainstream cultures are things that are constantly changing and it’s a developing process – as society grows at an overall. Kids very much look for role models – be it parents, grandparents or other family members and also public figures.
What’s important here is to instill a sense of awareness and knowing, that can be cultivated from a young age for children to know their true nature of belonging and who they are. Or quite simply, to know their purpose. This can be found – on their own, by mere encouraging and assurance. Kids anyway are intuitive to a certain sense. It is adults that reprimand them and restrict them that then makes them unable to ‘tune’ into their gifts and potentials.
The education system itself by any scope, creates a form of pupils that take on knowledge that’s given down to then work with it along certain frameworks. It is important for one to learn these skills and knowledge to be able to then use them, though as everything else, education is also evolving. In allowing for an inculcation of spiritual knowledge and awareness, kids can start developing their higher potentials from a young age, instead of taking a long route.
As has been mentioned, kids anyway come with fresh perspectives at birth and are here to explore, learn and contribute towards the overall wellbeing and progression. They are very much the future, for they’ve only just began their journey on earth – having had their refreshers and guidances before making their way in the process of incarnation and birth.
It is for us as parents, adults, teachers and leaders – to allow this next generation to live up to their full potential. There are numerous ways in bringing kids closer to spirituality and awareness. In can be through religion, books, movies, play & games, exploration and also bringing in aspects of meditation, yoga, creativity, music, art and any other element that’s inspirational and that cultivates. It’s for you to find what works best for your child.
Children who have a sense of awareness and who are allowed to be creative and just as they are – as kids; would less likely create tantrums and disobedience or even be moody. By allowing them to be themselves – with guidance and encouragement, we also create kids that are emotionally balanced and who have the right attitude. It’s always wise to start from young, and it’s for us as adults to pave the way and allow for better equipped young ones – who would be the driving force of the future.
