Most christians still dont believe that they will face persecution, they have this thinking, that only non-christians face persecution. All true christians will face persecution, even Jesus Christ said it - Matthew 10:22,23. And like you said, "if you are not being persecuted, you probably are not living a godly life".
I used to try to figure out @steemtruth which position does the best justice to scriptures and have concluded that the one that best fits is Preterism. I found 22 statements in the NT to the effect that Jesus and his apostles all expected him to return in their lifetime. If they were correct (and who's going to say Jesus was mistaken?) then we need to understand HOW he returned, wouldn't you think?
