Splinterlands: Gold Foil Purchases / Personal Game Update

in #splinterlands2 days ago

At the beginning of last year I wrote a couple of posts relating to Splinterlands and my plan to stock up on gold cards to boost my collection power and receive more cards in the airdrops that took place. ( post 1 post 2 )

Looking back at the screenshots and card prices in those posts.... I hope you didn't do the same as me!

Yes you've guessed it, buying 13 months ago wasn't the best plan and values of the core Rebellion GFLs are somewhere around a third to a quarter of the cost of what they were back then. I've not done the math but I highly doubt the extra cards earned in the drops counteract the reduction in price of the cards bought.

However, I did receive three of these which I consider very lucky!

And because I was was dropped three GF Tofu's I couldn't resist purchasing another, which as it stands does look like one of my better buys at $137.

Overall though, I'm currently riding a loss with last years core Rebellion card buys. So what did I do when the Legends arrived?

Legends

Buy! Buy em' all! Buy em' in duplicate and triplicate if possible!

Yes that's right, not disheartened by the drop in prices of the Rebellion core GFLs, I bought a fair few of these too.

For 1.25 million DEC during the two week window, you could buy twenty-five Legendary Legend cards and at least one of these would be a GF. At present 1.25 million DEC is worth around 920$, but let's say it was $1000 towards the end of last year when the Legends event was taking place.

Card1 BCX ($)1 BCX GF ($)Total Market Price Value
Elanor Bravefoot59.99850.002289.76
Delya59.99385.001824.76

Nephket40.00415.001375.00
Fizbo The Fabulous45.89385.001486.36

If you'd bought 25 Legendary cards for each of the five Legends you would currently be sitting on a paper profit of around $3800, and that's excluding a sell price for GF Riklauniman which is the rarest of all the Legend cards.

I didn't buy 25 Elanors, sadly, but did take the chance to buy 25 of the remaining Legends and so at present these cards have somewhat made up for the prices paid at the beginning of last year for the core GF purchases.

Mage Wagon reload (Conclave Arcana)

First, we plan for Rebellion core, Promo, and unlocked Reward cards (not soulbound Reward cards) and Rebellion booster packs to be able to be staked on Mage Wagons in Conclave Arcana Conflicts for chances to earn the Conclave Arcana airdrop cards, however they will only be worth half as many points as Conclave Arcana cards and packs. source

Last October Splinterlands released the proposal to develop Conclave Arcana, and in the post was the paragraph above. For those who bought into Rebellion this is a pretty important point as it is another chance for these cards to indirectly claw back some of their cost. I do think this was a wise move from Splinterlands as it has likely encouraged additional card purchases by those (or maybe just me!) looking for extra CP and more new cards.

However, without an NFT and/or a wider Crypto run in 2025, Splinterlands may struggle to inspire new players and hold onto it's existing ones.

I have a Hive friend steadily selling off his assets, but I'm doing the opposite in hope that this year fairs much better than the last two or three.

Good luck Splinterlands, keep me off LinkedIn please :)

Cheers

Ash

You seriously gotta love those gold foil legendary you can never go wrong

Long term I'm hoping that is the case, I'm in the red on paper with a fair few at present. This will all change the next 6/9 months... 🙏
