I Don’t Like Low Mana Battles
Let me say this: I do not like low mana battles. Being a beginner, I was somewhat forced to buy or rent several low mana cards because when you get those 12-15 Mana battles the starter cards really don’t give you much to go off of to be even slightly competitive.
I find higher Mana battles far more entertaining, however one needs to be prepared for all circumstances.
Out of my last 200 battles, approximately 25% were between 12 and 15 Mana: that’s a lot of battles and usually these are the ones that cause me more trouble, so I searched the best options available for a tank to use in these fights
This post is part 1/3, here we will look at Fire and Earth monsters.
Fire
The card comes with the starters collection, so it’s as cheap of an option as it gets. The guy can take a few hits with his 3 HP, but you will need faster support cards to make sure he can live enough so that the rest of your team can do the killing for you. However, 2 ATK is not too shabby and if you use it with Malric Inferno you can get a +1 ATK.
My first choice most of the times. Besides being fast, his Heal ability can carry through many battles as it allows him to restore part of his HP each round. Like Kobold Bruiser, this card is free, and who doesn’t like free stuff? LOL
There are other situations where Cerberus becomes the most obvious choice: for example, in battles where the health-equalizer rule is in place. In these battles, Cerberus becomes high on health and has self-healing, becoming virtually indestructible.
At level 5, Cerberus gets Retaliate as additional ability, which gives him the chance to return the attack when hit by a Melee monster. Awesome!
Earth
At level one, this giant has the Shield ability, which reduces the damage he takes from Melee and Ranged monsters. When Mana cap is low, it is essential to have a monster in first that can either do damage fast, or that is able to withstand a couple of rounds while the rest of your monsters take out the opponent. He’s not fast and with an ATK of 1 he is definitely not a heavy hitter, buy his HP and armor are almost a guarantee that he will survive 2 or 3 rounds.
Play him with Mylor Crowling and he will even do damage back to attacker when hit by a Melee monster.
Not a popular choice for a monster to put in first position, but I do like the fact that Goblin Thief is faster than many low mana Melee monsters and has 2 ATK.
If you use Lyanna Natura as a Summoner, he will also get a +1 HP, making it very hard to kill in round one.
One other possible way to deploy him is in the second spot, behind Brownie: this monster has only 1 HP but his Swiftness ability gives +1 speed to all friendly monsters. Plus, his own speed is 4 and has 1 Melee ATK. Basically, he will most likely be faster than the opponent’s tank and hopefully land a hit, then the rest of your team can finish him off, while your friendly Goblin can focus on the opponent’s backline.
Goblin Thief and Brownie will cost you 3 Mana in total, I’d say that’s a pretty good ROI!
Honorable mention
This is the only monster in the game that costs zero Mana to use. Yeah, you heard that right.
It doesn’t come for free though, you will have to purchase it or rent it: the buy price is quite steep (around 5,500 DEC as I write this post), but occasionally you can rent it for 1-5 DEC if you are able to snipe it, otherwise his floor price is around 15 DEC.
At level 1, Furious Chicken is basically a diversion to shield the monster in second position from the opponent’s Melee monster. It is effective in every position really, even as last line of defense against monsters with Snipe ability.
However, at level 3 the Chicken starts to also deal some damage (1 ATK) and at level 5 it really starts to shine, gaining the Enrage ability. If there is a card I would invest in as a beginner, Furious Chicken would be one of my top choices.
THANK YOU for reading and let me now what you think about these cards and which are your favorite low mana tanks!
