interesting. this is a lot of food for thought! earth is balancing mylor a bit by throwing in some thorns. The xenith monk is a cheapish neutral healer. there are some heavy snipers coming! And some significant taunters thrown in to the mix for good measure....
obviously theyve felt the need to tackle the big boys with some of the new abilities and clearly trample is being introduced a bit more to make the trample ruleset a little more varied and fun.
My main gripe is that some of the names/concepts seem a bit weak. Like overly convoluted or not quite true to the splinter.... its a minor thing, but somehow I feel they couldve simplified a few of them and also built a little more on some of the previous races.
very exciting to see how this all unfolds on the battlefield though! bring on the legions!

I think they specifically wanted to introduce more races because there are features planned that will involve them. I suspect Land Expansion could be the first element to see that in action, as part of the monster worker system.
Fair enough. Im sure there will be some cool mechanics around it all. It was just that I couldnt help feeling a bit fussy about some of the naming. Especially as we're opening out to a much larger player base now, i kind of hoped for a smarter class of fantasy. A few of the ones that bugged me were;
Mycelic Slipspawn - I cant think why a mycelic taunt creature with lots of health would be represented as a little mushroom spirit character, when it would have been such a lovely nod to the earths largest living organisms to represent it as a mycelium web/network type thing
( I felt a bit the same about gem meteorite, as a ranged attacker it needed to be named after a shower as opposed to a single object, as it keeps attacking until it hits the ground - only a slight bugbear!)
Flying Squid - I mean come on! You cant call something flying and then not give it the skill surely! Reach is a perfectly reasonable skill for a squid, but just call it something different! Even opportunity attack wouldve made it more bearable, but frankly its just a silly name.
Blinding Reflector - Literally its two skills are blind and reflect. Is there really that little poetic imagination in the team? Whats wrong with the silvershield clan? Or if you want another clan; Mirrorshield or something. I dont know. ANYTHING!
Stitch Leech - This is a nice monster, but why is it in the life splinter? It looks like it would be more suitable in earth or death? It seems to me to be an opportunity missed to design a leech type creature that genuinely looks like it hails from a heavenly realm, glowing with ethereal light or something.... just anything but a slimy triffid thing!
Regal Peryton - I concede that there might be a mechanical reason for making this Regal, but honestly, Peryton is a nice name and wouldve sounded better alone. There are a few naming convolutions like this that I wont go in to, because I already look like a super negative megageek right now
Of course its all down to personal taste. Im just venting my slight disappointment at the quality of the fantasy, just in case it rings true for anyone. Theres STILL TIME TO CHANGE IT! I will happily jump in to a name debate chat if its happening!
p.s. i love splinterlands, youre all amazing x x x x x
I had the same reaction to Flying Squid! Hopefully this new set of cards can give some new opportunities to newcomers, like me. Really enjoying the game, but rising up seems pretty daunting if you don't have tons of cash lying around. :)
