The topic that has been given to us for the final week of SPLINTERLANDS QUIDDITCH is to write about the best Splinterlands card trade/purchase/burn/transfer that we have made: Why and How...... LET'S BEGIN!
To become a professional player one has to understand the economics that governs splinterlands.
One may ask what does economy have to do with a card game. I used to think the same way too. For me splinterlands was just a strategic card game where I could earn just by playing. But soon I realized that there was a lot more to it.
Figuring out the exchange rate of various crypto-currencies, using a platform with low gas fee, what cards to buy and when to buy, what to sell and when to sell, is how you become competitive in this game.
I know this sounds complicated, and for new players like me it really is a lot to understand. But as you keep playing, you start to learn, you start to see the trends and through a bit of experimenting you start to become better at this. So here is a brief account of my one and only purchase and transfer I have made so far that is worth mentioning.
The Lore says that once a brave Dwarf Miner dug too deep into the Underworld of Mortis, seeking great treasure from the Realm of Dreams. As he searched and searched he stumbled upon an ancient, brooding evil called the Black Drake of Malaby and a great duel ensued. The miner got targeted by very powerful spell, Flesh Assumption and his body vanished! All that remained was a silver, ethereal spirit cloud. Before the Assumption spell could be completed, the Dwarf escaped from the monster’s clutches.
The Spirit Miner now wanders the Splinterlands unencumbered by Dwarfly flesh, practicing the powerful magic that he learned from the fateful duel with the Underworld Drake. He is not alive, nor is he dead. What is he?? He is the Spirit Miner.
A problem that every new player faces is - shortage of good magic monsters and their counters. Spirit Miner was one of those cards that gave me a lot of trouble when I started playing.
I really wanted it in my deck! But being a new player, I was reluctant on buying anything because a lot of questions remained unanswered. Let me address them one at a time so that new players that will join the game won't have to search a lot.
Question 1: Where to buy?
Answer: https://monstermarket.io . You get a cashback here. Its the only place where you can get cards for the cheapest amount.
Question 2: When to buy?
Answer: When HIVE gives more DEC and when DEC is worth more in U.S. Dollars. There are 2 things to be kept in mind : DEC and HIVE conversion rates.
CASE 1- If you have DEC then check how much is 1 DEC worth in U.S. Dollars here - https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=DEC
higher the price better will be your purchase.
CASE 2- If you have HIVE then you should convert it into DEC. Now here the conversion rate will come into play. Usually its 5%. Let me tell you how to do it within 1%.
- You can check how much DEC will 1 HIVE give you by clicking the plus sign next to your DEC amount in splinterlands. (I usually wait for 420+ DEC per HIVE)
- Then press Deposit button here- https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=DEC and deposit your HIVE that needs to be converted.
- You'll see that your HIVE is now available to be sold for DEC when you scroll down on the same site. Click the top most row of buy order. Then enter the amount of DEC you want and Buy. EASY! lol
Question 3- When to sell?
Answer- Sell it when value of DEC is low in U.S. Dollars. This way, you will get more DEC and you can use this DEC to buy later when DEC price increases.
Question 4- What to sell?
Answer- I would recommend new players- not to sell. Instead you should rent. Also, the new update considers your collection power. So don't sell.
Question 5- Where to rent?
Answer- https://peakmonsters.com . First off, you need to deposit HIVE there. Rent your cards and earn passive income.
Well I already told you that I was very interested in Spirit Miner. But the push came from here-

Around 2 weeks back there were a few Spirit Miners that were still under print. So I was hoping to get one from a chest (I am not lucky at all) and unsurprisingly that didn't happen. A few days later I found out that Spirit Miner went out of print. Without waiting for another second I went straight to https://monstermarket.io and bought 7 Spirit Miners. Yes that's right, I bought SEVEN! It took 16000 DEC to buy them all at that time. Out of print legendary cards usually go up in market value with time. Well, that's what I hoped for while buying.
Lets see now. As of now while I am writing this post, if I try buying seven Spirit Miners, it will cost me 21000 DEC. That's already 5000 DEC more than what I bought them for exactly 8 days back. And I hope it will only increase with time.
I have combined my Spirit Miner cards and leveled it up to 3. The other 2 cards I have rented out on https://peakmonsters.com .
My Spirit Miner with 3 abilities looks really cool. Its the first card of mine that has 3 abilities. Sadly, my summoners can only use 2 of his abilities right now. One is dodge (chance to evade melee and ranged attacks) and the other is swiftness (allies have increased speed). I will eventually level up my summoners too so that I could use his third ability, blind (enemy monsters will miss more), as well.

Even though The Spirit Miner might have failed to get any treasures out from the Realm of Dreams, My bet is still on him. I hope that through him I will find the treasures which he failed to obtain.

I'm exactly the same! In fact, DEC I kinda avoided trading simply because of the decimal points. 😂 I have done it a few times now, but your 'how to' is really helpful.
Congrats on getting your Miner before the yuge sale ends. I think things will get back up to normal (and perhaps even higher than normal prices) sooner rather than later... but of course, this is not financial advice. 😉
