Tournaments can seem intimidating for newbies in Splinterlands but they don't have to be. Instead, they can be rewarding both in terms of fun as well as a monetary sense. In this guide, I take you through the essentials of the Tournaments page and what you need to know to get started.
Filtering for upcoming events and public / private events is fairly self-explanatory so I'll skip them. Let's start with event types.
Event Types
There are three Event Types in Splinterlands - Anytime, Single Elimination, Sit N Go. At the moment, the most popular format is Anytime.
1. Anytime Tournaments
Anytime tournaments allow you to simply sign up for the tournament and then submit your teams for all the battles before the round ends (typically a day).
2. Single Elimination Tournaments
Single Elimination tournaments are knock out competitions. Once a minimum number of competitors have checked in, you submit your teams for the battles and if you lose, you get eliminated.
3. Sit N Go Tournaments:
Sit N Go tournaments start when full, or at the chosen time if less than the maximum allowed entrants join. Check-ins are not required for Sit N Gos and they can be either Anytime or Single Elimination tournaments.
Tournament Formats
There are only two tournament formats at the moment: Modern and Wild. This is the same as with ordinary ranked battles. In the Wild format, you can use any card while in the Modern format, you are restricted to the two most recent card sets.
Tournament Rules
There are a variety of tournament rules. Some tournaments have either Card Power or staked SPS requirements. You can filter for all the tournaments that you are eligible for by filtering for 'Qualified'.
Then, there are a the battle rules during the tournament. You may be restricted to only Gold cards or not be allowed to use Legendary cards / summoners. Also, there may be restrictions on the level of cards that may be used based on the league level.
Choosing and registering for tournaments
Choosing a tournament can feel intimidating but for beginners, I'd recommend choosing a low level tournament with a low entry fee. This will give you some feel of the tournament mechanics before putting some real money down.
Consider a few things:
- The cards that you have.
- The entry fee
- Your availability when the tournament is on
