Prolonging The Battle Thanks To Divine Protection

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Holy Protection ruleset and see what strategy works when all units get Divine Shield ability. The Divine Shield ability reduces the damage received for the first attack to 0. Resurrected units get it again but blast damage will count as damage taken and remove the protection.

For Holy Protection, I have two general approaches. The first one is to use as many blast units as possible in order to take out as much Divine Shield as possible and get started on taking out the opponent. The other strategy, which I have gone for in this battle, is to have as much health as possible on the battlefield and make it hard for the opponent to wear you down.

My summoner for this battle is Ruffmane to get to use the Gladiator card Captain Katie.

1st position - Blinding Reflector - To provide some health and shield in the battle.
2nd position - Captain Katie - Hoping for some decent magic damage and also bloodlust boost.
3rd position - Gelatinous Cube - Lots of health and also the scavenge ability will give it more health as units get killed during battle.
4th position - Ave Sturgis - Weapons Training to give the adjacent units a very decent 2 magic damage.
5th position - Almo Cambio - Lots of health and with decent speed plus 2 magic attack from Weapons Training, it becomes quite formidable.
6th position - Anachron Bolter - I want it mainly for its Headwinds ability to reduce the range attacks of my opponent.

Looking at the lineup of my opponent, I knew that I should stand a pretty good chance. The only wildcard was his Drybone Barbarian. If it gets enraged, it can do quite a bit of damage till it is taken out.

Thankfully, though, I was able to take out his Drybone Barbarian in the first round. And if you see the different in the health of both sides, the advantage was firmly on my side. It was 40 health to 23 health.

Unfortunately, Katie died really early and wasn't of much use. Still, the health advantage meant that it was surely inevitable that victory would be mine in the end. Also, the attack on both sides pretty evenly matched.

By round 4, I was doing the damage with a major health advantage and also an attack advantage of 8:2.

The Divine Shield prolonged the battle but once you have established an advantage, it doesn't make much of a difference. You can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_ce6aebe332a386ba11ddf9a6fef3cb2a&ref=charcoalbuffet

That's all for this Holy Protection edition of the Battle Mage Secrets. See you in the next one.

Wicked weapon's training. What's the name of that card with that scavenging ability? Good card, good win

Thanks! It is the galetinous cube. An old card that wasn't of much use until Weapons Training came along.

It's so powerful with the weapon's training, I think it was the main reason why you won. Cards like this have really come alive with weapons training
