I noticed that he had been using Fire Splinters in his past battles so I predicted that he might have a heavy melee lineup. With that thought in mind, I decided to put two tanks in my lineup, one in the front row with Retaliate just to chip some health and a main tank with Shield at the second row. The battle turned out well to my favor.

2nd battle against Fire Splinter

I also noticed that he had also been using Fire Splinters in his past battle history so it would also be another heavy melee lineup. I was lucky that he used Cerberus as his tank rather than Living Lava. Halfway through the battle I thought I had lost but surprisingly Stone Golem carried the game. We also had another valuable player who was Stonesplitter Orc who triggered his Retaliate when he was dead.

Learning point: Retaliate can trigger even if Monster was dealt the killing blow.

3rd battle against Death Splinter

After viewing the battle history, it is clear that he will most likely use a Death Splinter and would have the -1 Melee Attack effect to my Monsters, so during my preparation, I was inclined to pick high damage dealers and high health Monsters (to guard against Opportunity). I also needed a backline with high health to soak damage from Sneak.

The planning took longer than I expected as I was uncertain how the lineup would turn up. But eventually I went with the team above.

Luckily I won and ended up with a winstreak after 3 wins in a row:

At this point, I felt that documenting my daily quest was very helpful in establishing my train of thought and helped me to exercise more caution. Or it could simply be because the three opponents had predictable lineups as seen from their match history.

4th battle with Earth Splinter

From the match history, I couldn't quite pick out what he might use next. I suspected that he could be the type of player that is trying to counter opponent's lineups from his Earth Splinters (Void Monsters)

With the low mana cap, I had very limited options. I was really tempted to go with one tank and spread out with more damage dealers. But a part of me really wanted to go with the Stonesplitter Orc + Stone Golem combo that has worked so well for me so far. With a leap of faith, I went with the latter and a low mana Khmer Princess. He went with a Earth Splinter (so he could be doing Earth Splinter daily quest like me?)

Gotta love it when you see Stone Golem smacking that last enemy Monster for free, just like my past matches. Victory was sweet.

Could we go 5-0 for the first time?

5th battle

image.png

From the match history, I was rather confident he would go with the Death Splinter, so I planned my lineup for higher damage (similar to Match 3)

To my surprise, he used a Fire Splinter and we got steamrolled. Misses here and there and Stonesplitter Orc got split instead. End of our 4-win streak :(

6th Battle with Water Splinter

I predicted that he would check my match history and that my previous lineups were better against Fire Splinter (which he was alternating between Water and Fire). Therefore, I went with an anti-Magic Earth Splinter lineup in an attempt to counter his potential Water Splinter. My guess was right but it seemed like our lineup was not strong enough and we still lost. It was a good attempt though.

7th battle with Water Splinter

I predicted that he would go Water and went with anti-Magic Earth.

Honestly, Mustang's missed first attack had me on the edge of my seat. It felt like the opponent had strategically placed his Cockatrice at the front row. Failed Summoner didn't bring us as much as value as I would have expected but luckily we still won the match.

QUEST COMPLETED!

I was totally not planning to upload my reward because I thought it would either be potion/credit but truth be told...
