Introduction

About two weeks ago (Aug. 12), I wrote an article about the massive explosion of interest of Filipino Gamers on Splinterlands. At that time of my writing, I just recently joined a Facebook Group called "Splinterlands Unofficial Philppines" created by @jacksonizer, also a Splinterland content creator in Youtube.com. When I joined this newly created group, it only had 50 members but when I wrote that blog, the membership was already at 1,300.

After another two weeks, the group increased from 1,300 members to 5,300 members. That's a massive growth of player base, over 300% increase in just 14 days!

In that blog, I also mentioned the other Top 2 Splinterlands Facebook Groups and their membership that time, namely:

  1. Splinterlands Ph - With 10,000 members
  2. Splinterlands Marketplace - With 6,500 members.

I also checked these 2 Facebook Groups if they have the same membership explosion.

Splinterlands Ph continues to dominate in terms of members. On the same two week period, it grew from 10,000 to 27,000 Members or 170%. Unlike Splinterlands Ph, Splinterlands Market Place was not as fast in attracting members. Its membership only grew by 53.85%

Worth mentioning is Splinterlands PH Guide and Support which grew by 159% on the same period.

Clear gainer for the past two week is Splinterlands Unofficial Philippines. I attribute this to the dedication and effort of the group creator @jacksonizer who really sees to it that there are no scammers and spammers among our members. He sets out clear rules and he doesn't mind kicking members out if they violate the Facebook Group Rules and Regulations.

Why there's a massive influx of Splinterland Players in Facebook?

I can think of 5 reasons why new players are flocking Splinterlands Facebook Groups:

Desire-to-learn effect

I have observed during the course of my engagement with these Facebook Groups, those who are joining are new players. And mind you the demographics is very young, probably in their teens. This is their fist time to encounter the game and their questions are pretty much very basic like:

"Can I use Gcash to buy spell book?"
"Why is my spellbook not appearing when I have paid for it?"
"Where can I contact support?"
"How to play?"
"What card should I buy or rent?"

Spill-over effect

Gamers who are looking for cheaper, more affordable play2earn games have found that Splinterlands is very lucrative game. They are moving away from games that have prohibitive entry fee and those that require them to pay gas for every game transactions. Since many of these new players are teens, they cannot really invest huge sums of money.

Social Network effect

Any new player who joined the Facebook Group must have heard about the game somewhere, either from friends, acquiantance, neighbor, Youtube video or a social media post.
Since this kind of game is in-demand, teens have tendency to follow the trend because their peers are doing it and they do not want to be left behind.

Play2earn effect

Because of the pandemic, families are really struggling to find means of livelihood. Even teens who are supposed to be studying a looking for ways to help their families. They see play2earn blockchain games as a way to earn income no matter how small the income is. In developing countries even $4/day could make a lot of difference in their lives.

Community building effect

Community growth is directly correlated to the quality of membership. I think the growth of these groups is a testament of the quality of conversation happening within these groups. I can just cite our group where spammers and scammers are kicked out immediately, thus, ensuring that members get quality engagement and conversation with other members.

If you want to try this game which only requires a minimal investment, you can use my referral and you will get discounts when purchasing potions, cards and credits.
