RE: An Open Letter to the GLS and SPL Communities

"Actions speak louder than words"

I'm proud of you @genepoolchlrn8r.

I realize there's been a lot said on this issue, but at the end of the day @gank summed it up best:

Saying you're going to run a marathon is very different than actually running one.

You said you were sorry about how this activity affected the community, and now you've demonstrated it. To give away your profit when the team clearly said they would NOT ask for such a thing shows you truly do care about the community.

Not too many people would give back $25,000 worth of packs when they don't have to.

I've said it publicly and to your directly, I think you are a great guy for the community because you do care. I don't believe for one second that you spend the time you do for anything other than to do your part to help both games succeed. Whether right or wrong on any topic, I see your passion and drive.

I also think good people make bad choices, no one is perfect. It took you some time to understand that this was a bad choice, but in the end you listened to the community, the devs, and most importantly to yourself. YOU made this decision, and for that you have earned my respect.

I think you've been a terrific person for the communities of both SPL and GLX in the past, and will continue to be in the future. Events like this challenge someone's character, and I feel you answered that challenge well.

This community may take awhile to recognize how these events in totality will unfold, but I think a few months from now we will all see that we are far better off for having gone through it.

Finally I said a few days ago that I was losing confidence in the project. Your action today goes a long way to restoring my confidence, and I look forward to going on this journey in crypto gaming with you and everyone in both ecosystems together!

Sort:

Hewitt, I would hope I was either your judge or on the jury too. I see many of your comments for many years and believe you are an awesome person. I feel that whatever you would be accused of, you either had a misunderstanding or truly didn't do it.

Either way... I would try to look at it through your eyes, that's the minimum I would do because you've earned my respect over time as well!

first :)

I feel that everyone earns their credibility, its never given. Its ok to be skeptical of anyone. And everyone has their own opinions and require their own thresholds to earn trust.

I think the concern about anything bad happening is misplaced though. In fact if you think about it, the community collectively showed it is more powerful than any leader or even the devs themselves in this situation.

We have a LOT of very smart and well-meaning players that really look out for each other. This is a very powerful dynamic that should not be under-estimated.

While I hated to see the division and negativity caused by this whole event, I can also see the bright side. Think of all the players that spent their time and energy to "do something to protect the game".

And to your final point, while I might be considered soft or on the lovey dovey side of things, there are many that certainly are not. I have no doubt that everyone will remember this and its impact will be felt for a very long time. ps... that's not a bad thing either!
