Hello everyone, today I wanna make a post about the way I battle against the new Earth Summoner Obsidian, one of the most popular and used Summoners in the game; specially in the Novice and Bronze League.
This card gives +1 Magic Attack to every Monster with this type of attack in your team, being like a new version to Alric Stormbringer, which in his time was one of the most used Summoners in the Game.
So I got some curiosity about the opinion of people of which of these two Summoner are better in battle, so I made a Poll in Reddit where people would vote to show their opinion. This were the result out of 136 votes:
In a not so resounding result, 103 voters said Alric Stormbringer gave them more chances of a victory than Obsidian. Added to this, three users commented the next:
"CL also added tons of monsters with void, and the new death summoner is basically a stronger bortus… I’d say water is >> for magic but at the price point it’s definitely smarter to build a green magic deck if you are debating between the two"
"I don’t think it’s about which is better.
It´s the fact that magic overall is weaker since there is more counter. We not have 2 freely accessible summoners that -1 magic with Brotus and Thaddius.
This is just how the meta is shifted. Which is a good thing IMO. Magic was a little too powerful."
"this is a difficult question to answer, because there are many factors. I scratched together this analysis based on my experiences at Bronze, Silver, and a little bit of Gold at the end of some seasons. i'm sure things change dramatically at higher levels.
but this post got me thinking about it, so i thought i'd share my thoughts.
1.queen myrcella is straight up better than venari wavesmith.
2.obsidian has access to many things at lower levels that alric does not. mushroom seer for silence, for example, is available at level 1 obsidian. silence is much harder to obtain for alric.
3.unicorn mustang and mycelic slipspawn are a very powerful tandem to switch between for a tank. in the magic mirror (GG, UU, or UG) void matters a lot, and alric has the ease of torhillo backed up by Oshannus in teh 1-2 spots. call me crazy, but i think baakjira is a solid option for void as well. this helps to counter the difficulty of obtaining silence.
4.obsidian's access to healing is quite powerful. alric has much worse healing options because they arent magic attack creatures.
5.both have a good sneak option, but Obsidian's (goblin sorcerer) is better than alric's (coral wraith)
6.they each have different strenghts that are hard to evaluate. Medusa gives Alric access to stun, Ruler of the seas blast. while Obsidian has a high speed/toughness monster. (regal peryton) and a defense vs return fire (centauri mage). sporcerer and oaken behemoth make obsidian's toolbox pretty damn good. alric has access to affliction with captian's ghost, but that is available to obsidian via nuetral monsters.
7.at lower level games, alric's 2 drop magic creature is better, but eventually obsidian's gets tank heal, and it becomes better.
then, there are outside considerations. Alric's cards are more diverse. if you are leveling up your Alric lineup, you're also boosting your other blue summoner's lineups. that is far less true for obsidian, and that is a real consideration when you're on a budget.
but speaking of budgets, Obsidian and the support cards are in general more accessable.
so, it depends on your criteria."
