Splinterlands: Journey to Champion [1]

in #splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!

I recently started playing Splinterlands in July 2021, which was my first experience of blockchain games and cryptocurrency.
Due to the game's popularity rising daily, I am sure many are in a similar situation, and are seeking advice.

This series of posts will show my journey from Novice to Champions League, whilst building a card collection and having fun! Strategies will be discussed for every league, and common decks and their counters will be explained.

Many players cannot put money into buying cards, especially after spending $10 on the Summoner's Spellbook. To show the inclusivity of this game, I will not spend any money in buying cards or packs. My aim is to demonstrate how compounding the financial benefits of Splinterlands can lead to anyone rising to the top!

As someone that is going through the same gaming experiences as most new players, I hope my victories, and more importantly, my mistakes, will benefit the members of the growing Splinterlands community.

Initial days:

After joining Splinterlands, I started playing the game with only starter cards, and using relatively little strategy. This approach quickly led to difficulty passing a rating of 200.

To break the initial plateau of wins, my advice for any fellow new players is to rent cards, as it is an extremely cheap way to acquire power, and rise in the leagues. Whilst only 3 days from the end of the season, it enabled me to rise to Bronze II, giving me 7 loot chests
to open at the end of the season, with a huge potential for valuable rewards

The most effective card that I rented was undoubtedly the SEA MONSTER.

For any game with a Mana cost above 18, I heavily favoured this card. Not only does it have 4 MELEE damage, which is devastating for a tank in Bronze League, but the 8 HEALTH meant it could survive in the first position for multiple rounds.
However, the game-changing factor for me was the HEAL ability, causing it to regenerate most of its health after attacks. This meant that it drew attacks for the maximum amount of time, enabling by back line to carry out many key attacks.

At a cost of 0.1 DEC / day to rent, most players in Bronze III will be able to cover the price in one match. Also, as the card helps you to beat others, the increasing amount of DEC earnt can mean your investment can be returned 100 fold!

I strongly encourage any player to try using the Sea Monster, as it is guaranteed to be effective in any Water Splinter deck.

If anyone would like me to post a Water Splinter Deck using only starter cards, which helped me beat many difficult cards learners encounter (Living Lava or Haunted Spirit), please like and comment and I will post this ASAP with a detailed review and a sample game.
