Hello Splinterfans!
The Battle Mage Secrets challenge is always a fun way to learn more about strategy and ways to take advantage of multiple rulesets in the game. The game has been evolving since it's inception and now more than ever it is imperative that one understands the in and outs of the different ruleset combinations to be victorious. I have had more than my fair share of matches where I didn't look closely enough at those rulesets and got utterly destroyed. With three possible rulesets at once now you have to pay close attention to take full advantage of these boosts (or curses!)
I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to creating these posts, but I've done my best to make it look as good as I can!
This weeks challenge rule set is: What Doesn't Kill You
Here all monsters receive the enrage ability which provides a speed and health buff and melee monsters get an attack multiplier.
This always makes it fun to make up a nice strong melee team, add some nice shielding, repair, and high speed to overcome your enemy. But what happens when melee monsters are banned from the match? It makes things a bit more interesting!
This battle is a Bronze level brawl match in which this exact same scenario came up. Mana was 33 with available splinters of water, earth, life, and dragon. This also happened to be Chaos only brawl match, so the first thing I start to worry about is a magic team led by Obsidian because that strategy is very common, so to counter this situation I brought in Immortalis. His buffs reduce the opposing teams monsters health by one, adds the void ability to reduce damage from magic attacks, and shatter to destroy the enemy's shields. But I also kept in mind the possibility of a ranged attack which I will address as we go through the lineup!
Next up I had to decide on a good tank, and since melee monsters weren't an option and it's Chaos cards only I went with a nice reliable choice: Mycelic Slipspawn! With the taunt ability he is going to take almost all of the attacks and comes in with strong health and magic attack.
Next up I decided to throw in a surprise in case there was blast monster using our friendly Fungus Flinger with his martyr ability. My reasoning also being is even if he's not killed early on he still will boost the stats of my third in line. I kind of like the lore picture of this guy more than the cared, makes you wonder what those things smell like! It most certainly couldn't be pleasant!
Third in line I placed the Regal Peryton because his stats would increase nicely if the fungus flinger were killed off and my tank were already dead. He already has great speed so it's a pretty safe go to for the third position here.
For slot number four I decided to hedge my bets. If it wasn't a magic attack team and they went with ranged attack I would be in need of some shielding. Queen Mycelia fits the build perfect right here giving me the shielding I may need!
Now for slot five. The obvious choice has to be the Goblin Psychic to heal the tank throughout the match. Plus he has the bonus of having a magic attack level of two which isn't too shabby for a bronze level match.
Now here I made a mistake... I didn't rent a Fungus Fiend, I just plain forgot while renting the cards that I don't own. In case of opportunity or sneak he's nice to place last. Fortunately in this match it wasn't a issue!
Now let's get to the action, where the rubber meets the road!
My opponent decided against a magic team and decided to go with a ranged approach. Thank goodness I used Queen Mycelia! Right off the bat I really don't understand my opponent's team. They have a martyr monster in first position which is fine if your next ranged card can attack from first position, Portal Spinner cannot. There is a Captain Katie, and now I'm thankful I used Immortalis because if her blood lust gets her going she is a monster! The Ave Sturgis isn't too worrisome with is low health but he does have a magic attack of two. Pelacor Arbalest is well placed as is Xenith Archer which might cause some trouble if they get past my tank.
Venari Marksrat dies almost instantly and now Portal Spinner is in first position, and even though stronger from the martyr is unable to attack in first position.
We're still in round one and already we have Ave Sturgis in first position. It's not looking good for my opponent.
Near the end of round one we now have Captain Katie up in first position and my tank has been healed so now the opposition is pretty much done...
Not even through round two and now Pelacor Arbalest is in first position, this match is done...
And that will do it, point, game, and match!
Post Mortem
I made the right team pick considering my likely options and was fortunate not to lose one monster. But it goes to show that it's important to analyze the rulesets and carefully consider what the enemy might have to offer. My opponent failed to think things through with the first and second positions. They set up the team for a sure fail. A Gargoya Devil would have been much better in the second position so he can fight in first position as soon as the Venari Marksrat dies and with boosted stats.
When What Doesn't Kill You comes up with no melees available you have a pretty safe bet with Immortalis. However keep in mind to add a monster to give your team shielding in case they come in with a ranged attack.

top post!
How do you center the cards on your posts? Also I ran into sizing problems with the cards as well, Immoratalis and Fungus Flinger seem to come out too large unlike the others. Some of these aspects I've got to figure out! Thanks!
I wrote the commands here and it applies them so you can't see it...copy your cards as screenshots and upload them directly into your posts. always keep your zoom at the same setting so that your images are always the same size. look at a post of mine where you like the formatting, open edit history and copy the formatting that you want to use. once you have the formatting the way you want it, create a template so that it will always appear the same way. it took me a few weeks to work things out and I am still learning... let me know how you go and I am happy to help
Where is edit history located?
why don't you join discord or we can skype? there I can share my screen and show you everything
I do have discord on this account, my username is javeson9551
when i did add friend and put in your user name it didn't work
regarding edit history, i don't know how to do it with peakd. another frontend called ecency has it. click on those 3 little dots an you will see a menu
I'll look there! Thanks
