For this week’s #TPGCHALLENGE, my boy @bjangles has asked us to design a summoner card inspired by @Yabapmatt, one of the game's co-founders.
Using AI, I first created the character art illustration. The prompt was as follows:
"The character will be a a so-called Technology-Mage, so include steam punk elements to reflect that, while also including his magical qualities as a mage"
After a few different image generations, I arrived at this character art, and proceeded to touch it up in Photoshop.
Lore:
Yabapmatt, The Arcane Innovator
In the ancient halls of the Arcane Foundry, where the boundaries between magic and technology blur, Yabapmatt emerged as a legend. Once a humble scholar, he uncovered a secret so profound it reshaped his destiny: the fusion of arcane spells with the intricacies of steam-powered machines. With a mind as sharp as the enchanted crystals he wields, Yabapmatt built creations that defy the laws of magic and science alike.
But Yabapmatt has never sought power for himself. From the earliest days of his journey, he has been a champion of the common folk, using his unique talents to protect and guide the new battle mages of the realm. Whenever darkness rises or forces threaten to overwhelm, Yabapmatt stands at the forefront, leading with wisdom and courage. He teaches the young mages not just to wield power, but to understand it, ensuring they are equipped to defend their homes and allies.
Now, Yabapmatt roams the realms, accompanied by his ever-evolving mechanical constructs, always seeking ancient knowledge and lost artifacts that might unlock the final mysteries of creation itself. Yet, no matter how far his quest takes him, he is never too distant to lend a hand to those in need, a beacon of hope and ingenuity in a world fraught with peril. To encounter Yabapmatt is to see the future of magic, where innovation meets tradition, and where the greatest strength lies in unity and protection.
Card Stats:
Yabapmatt is an influential summoner in Praetoria, but never takes sides. Therefore he's a Neutral summoner, letting him pair with any Splinter. On top of that, he wants to grant players a powerful summoner that can always be played, leading to him becoming the first 0 Mana summoner in the game!
He also gives all monsters on his team a +1 Shield, as he protects the weak and frail from harm.
Furthermore, Yaba's influence in Praetoria lets him Conscript some of the strongest warriors the realm has to offer: the Gladiators! He can call on one Gladiator per battle.
Tactics 1: Grant 1 monster in your lineup the ever-powerful ability-combo, Immunity plus Heal, meaning you can create a very resilient unit in your lineup that will be a nuisance for your opponent to take out. Represents a more defensive option.
Tactics 2: If you're looking for more offensive oomph, however, Yabapmatt does not disappoint. You can give one of your units the Bloodlust ability paired with Enrage, turning that unit into an absolute attacking beast.
Mint Rarity:
There will only ever be 100 max level copies minted into the game, making the Yabapmatt card the rarest ever! Each of the copies are a 1/1, and only 10 GF copies will be minted to a lucky few. The mint number can be found next to the Promo card symbol in the bottom left corner of the card frame.
