Hi all,
Introduction
Another post in this series. Thank you for your support in the previous posts 😊
This series intends to determine if there are other aspects of cards that may contribute to increasing its value. Based on your feedback I can focus on more/other things – so feel free to tell me where you want me to go into further detail.
I include some analysis on where the cards fit in terms of gameplay, strategy, comparison with other cards, and a market analysis of its price. Feel free to suggest what more do you want me to look into in this series, and your support is much appreciated!
In this edition I will be looking at the Crystal Jaguar.
Gameplay Analysis
Crystal Jaguar is a Common Life Monster from the Untamed set in Splinterlands. It is a low-mana tank with strong Melee counter abilities, making it a solid frontline choice for Life teams in Melee-focused battles.
Mana Cost: 4
Attack Type: Melee
Abilities by Level
Level 4: Thorns (Deals damage back to Melee attackers when hit)
Level 9: Retaliate (Has a 50% chance to counterattack when hit by a Melee attack)
Level-Based Insights
Level 1-3: Functions as a basic tank with moderate Health, Armor, and Speed but lacks abilities.
Level 4: Gains Thorns, making it a strong counter against Melee attackers, punishing them when they hit it.
Level 9: Gains Retaliate, significantly increasing its damage potential in Melee-heavy battles. If an enemy strikes, Jaguar has a chance to hit back twice in a single round (Retaliate + normal attack).
Comparative Analysis
How does this card compare to other similar ones?
Vs. Shieldbearer: Shieldbearer is a high-health Taunt tank, while Crystal Jaguar is a low-mana alternative focused on countering Melee attacks.
Vs. Uriel the Purifier: Uriel has Flying and Heal, making it a more durable but high-mana tank. Crystal Jaguar is the better budget option for Melee counterplay.
Vs. Silvershield Warrior: Silvershield Warrior has Double Strike, offering more offense, but Crystal Jaguar provides superior defense with Thorns and Retaliate.
Key Takeaway
Crystal Jaguar is a low-mana defensive tank that excels in Melee-focused battles, punishing attackers with Thorns and Retaliate.
Synergies
Tyrus Paladium (Life Summoner): Grants +1 Armor, increasing Jaguar’s durability.
Mother Khala: Provides +1 Health, allowing Jaguar to survive extra hits.
Luminous Eagle: Another Melee Reach attacker, allowing Jaguar to tank while Luminous Eagle deals damage from the second position.
High Priest Darius: Can Resurrect Crystal Jaguar, making it an even more annoying tank to deal with.
Ruleset Performance
Favorable Rulesets:
Melee Mayhem: Allows Crystal Jaguar to counterattack from any position, making Retaliate more valuable.
Super Sneak: Melee units target the backline, making Crystal Jaguar an excellent Sneak counter.
Equalizer: Gains extra Health, making it a stronger frontline tank.
Challenging Rulesets:
Reverse Speed: Its moderate Speed (4 at max level) makes it less effective in slow-speed battles.
Keep Your Distance: Prevents Melee Monsters from attacking, making it useless.
Magic Heavy Battles: Lacks Magic resistance, making it vulnerable to high-Magic teams.
Market Analysis
Price Overview
Regular Foil: around $ 0.05
Gold Foil: around $ 0.6
Investment Potential
Crystal Jaguar is a strong budget tank for Melee-heavy matches, offering Melee counters and survivability. It is not an all-purpose tank, but it shines in Super Sneak, Melee Mayhem, and Equalizer battles.
Ratings
Usefulness: 7/10 (Strong against Melee but weak against Magic and Ranged)
Cost-Effectiveness: 8/10 (Affordable and effective at all levels)
Versatility: 6/10 (Best in Melee-focused battles, less useful elsewhere)
Conclusion
Crystal Jaguar is a low-mana defensive tank with Thorns and Retaliate, making it a strong counter to Melee attackers. It excels in Super Sneak, Melee Mayhem, and Equalizer battles, but struggles against Magic and ranged-focused teams. A solid pick for budget-conscious Life players needing a Melee counter.
