Finding value in Splinterland cards – Hobgoblin

in #splinterlands • 2 years ago

Hi all,

Introduction

Another post in this series. Thank you for your support in the previous posts 😊

This series intends to determine if there are other aspects of cards that may contribute to increasing its value. Based on your feedback I can focus on more/other things – so feel free to tell me where you want me to go into further detail.
I include some analysis on where the cards fit in terms of strategy and a market analysis of the price of the card in previous months. Feel free to suggest what more do you want me to look into in this series, and your support is much appreciated!
In this edition I will be looking at the Hobgoblin.

Strategy

I will be focusing my analysis on the usefulness of this card in lower leagues (i.e. bronze to gold).
This card’s main advantages are its speed (3), the Double Strike ability and being from the neutral splinter. The 5 mana cost make this card generally replaceable in most matches, mostly due to only having 1 damage and very low HP (2). The Double Strike ability is the saving grace, as it is one of the most powerful abilities in the game. You can easily go by without this card though. As with some other cards, unless you are going for a collection approach to the game, I would say this is currently a skippable card for bronze-gold leagues. However, from the market perspective, there seems to be some interesting opportunities

Market Analysis

A skippable card, which may still present some market opportunities.
Let’s look at the last 6 months.

Looking at the graphs, the following can be concluded:

  • in regular foil, the card seems to hold its value, currently sitting in the 0.6-1$ range. Most notable is the 3x spike which still lasted for some weeks.
  • in gold foil, the card is also very stable and generally within the 20-40$ range. This changed a few weeks ago, where the card’s value spiked to 9x (!!), retaining its price for a while.

Please let me know in the comments if there is any further information you would like me to include in future analysis.
Thank you for reading this post.
Stay safe!
