Mythical Creatures Takeover in Lost Legendary

in #splinterlandslast month (edited)

How do you makeup with your strategy when legendary units are not allowed? Can you create a powerful lineup using only common, rare and epic units? Is this rule set better for balanced or aggressive play?

Lost Legendaries rule set challenges players to make the most of their common, rare and epic units which could either push for new strategies or limit your usual options. It’s great for testing your ability to adapt but might be a little tough if you heavily rely on legendary units to win.

This Week's Theme is…

Legendary Units may not be used in battles.

Lost Legendaries forces you to dig into your non-legendary options. This can either expose the gaps in your lineup or discover new hidden gems and combinations of cards you didn’t rely on before. Fortunately for me, Obsidian doesn't heavily rely on legendary units making this an easy rule set to fight with for me.

    Lineup and Strategy

Because of the ruleset Lost Legendaries, I wasn't able to use Spirit Hoarder to assist Mycelic Slipspawn. I ended up doing two frontline for more safety. The other 4 units have magic damage in order to abuse Obsidian's abilities.

    || All friendly Monsters have +1 Magic damage.

Why pick this summoner: Obsidian boosts magic damage for the whole team which is very effective as I usually use a heavy magic damage lineup. With +1 magic damage, it works great in builds focusing on magic damage like mine like Goblin Psychic or Regal Peryton.

    || Has a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Units who do not have the flying ability.
    || Restores a third of the max health to this Unit's health each round.
    || When hit with a melee attack, Units with retaliate have a 50% chance of immediately attacking their attacker.

Why pick this unit: Pelacor Mercenary has solid survivability thanks to its high health and Heal ability. It has huge offensive power as well due to its 3 melee damage and Retaliate ability.

    || Restores a third of the max health to this Unit's health each round.
    || Reduced damage from Magic attacks by 50%.
    || When hit with a Magic damage, does half the Magic damage (rounded up) back to the attacker.

Why pick this unit: I placed a Xenith Monk at the 2nd position to serve as a backup in case Pelacor Mercenary dies. Unfortunately, he cannot attack but it makes my lineup more durable from the front.

    || Ranged and Magic attacks hit a random enemy target.
    || Unit's health increases each time it damages an enemy Unit's health by half the damage dealt.
    || When this unit hits a target, it has a 50% chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.
    || When this Unit hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.
Why pick this unit: Madcap Magus brings solid magic damage with Scattershot allowing it to randomly hit targets beyond the frontline which can disrupt enemy positioning. During the battle, he even killed one passed through their armor due to magic attack's properties. Life Leech gives it decent sustainability which is good when combined with Goblin Psychic's Tank Heal while Affliction can block healing on enemies in case they employ some Triage. It’s more of a wildcard in terms of damage but useful for softening up and eliminating low health backlines.

    || Restores a third of max health to the Unit in the first position each round.
    || Reduced damage from Magic attacks by 50%.
    || Reduces the Magic attack of all enemy Units by 1.
    || When this Unit hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.
Why pick this unit: Goblin Psychic offers solid utility with Tank Heal and Silence making it both a healer and a good debuff. The Affliction ability adds more control to stop enemy healing their tanks and its magic damage isn’t bad either. It’s an essential unit for Earth element for healing up your frontline unit while reducing enemy magic power.

    || Has a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Units who do not have the flying ability.

Why pick this unit: With high speed and decent magic damage Regal Peryton is a great evasive magic attacker. Its Flying ability makes it harder to hit giving it an edge in survivability. It’s useful for consistently chipping away at the enemy’s health from the backline wihle being a good unit to evade Sneak attacks.

    || All enemy Units target this Unit (if they are able to).
    || This Unit takes only 1 damage from attacks with power 5 or higher.
    || Reduces the Speed of all enemy Units by 1.

Why pick this unit: Mycelic Slipspawn with Taunt makes it a fantastic backline protector drawing enemy fire away from more vulnerable units. Unfortunately, I was not able to use Spirit Hoarder for the Triage ability because Spirit Hoarder is a legendary unit making this unit a little bit more inefficient as a defense against the enemies. Mycelic Slipspawn is still good though as long as I eliminate most of the damage before he dies.

    Summary

This lineup benefits from strong magic synergy especially under Obsidian’s +1 magic buff. Units like Goblin Psychic and Regal Peryton become more dangerous with increased damage potential. Meanwhile Pelacor Mercenary and Xenith Monk provide great durability and healing to keep the frontline going.

The Lost Legendaries rule set pushes you to rely more on strategy than on powerful legendary units. Overall, this lineup's focus on magic damage is a really strong strategy even if it's one-dimensional.
