Showing off my Standard Build in Standard Rule Set

This post was made as entry for Splinterlands Social Media Challenge.

What is your most memorable battle under the Standard rule set? Does anything change each game when the rules stay the same? Is this an advantage or a challenge for your lineup?

The Standard rule set can be a breath of fresh air for players who prefer consistency without random twists. With how many rule sets Splinterlands has now, it's a good break from all the chaos. It's a straightforward battle where only your lineup and strategy matter. While it might feel less exciting for some, it’s a perfect opportunity for me to show how good my lineup is against my opponents.

This Week's Theme is…

Standard
No modifications to the standard gameplay rules and mechanics.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
With no gameplay changes, the Standard rule set focuses purely on how well you build your team and how coherent each unit is to one another. It rewards players who have a solid lineup and can handle various situations without relying on special rules.

Standard || No modifications to the standard gameplay rules and mechanics.
  • This is the simplest rule set in the game and a breath of fresh air for those who wants to take a step back and check how strong their builds and fundamentals are.

Battle Strat: Since the rule set is Standard and there's no other rule sets, I am free to use my strongest builds without any concern if the rule sets would be a problem. I focused on magic damage as I have Obsidian as my summoner increasing magic damage. As usual, I have Pelacor Mercenary as one of my tanks. He's really good at keeping the front line alive due to his Heal and Flying abilities while being supported by Goblin Psychic's Tank Heal.
Battle Summary: I am in an overwhelming advantage due to my unit's levels. Higher levels means higher stats and more abilities. This gave me a huge boost and advantage over my opponent for this game.

    Lineup and Strategy

    || All friendly Monsters have +1 Magic damage.

Why pick this summoner: Obsidian is a reliable summoner that boosts magic damage by 1. While it doesn't add anything else like health or armor to other units, the +1 magic can make a big impact for magic heavy lineups like mine.

    || Has a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Units who do not have the flying ability.
    || Restores a third of the max health to this Unit's health each round.
    || When hit with a melee attack, Units with retaliate have a 50% chance of immediately attacking their attacker.

Why pick this unit: Pelacor Mercenary is a tanky front liner with 3 melee damage, decent speed of 4 and 11 health. It has great survivability thanks to Flying, Heal and Retaliate abilties. Overall, a tough unit for the front with a good mix of defense and offense especially for longer battles.

    || Ranged and Magic attacks hit a random enemy target.
    || Unit's health increases each time it damages an enemy Unit's health by half the damage dealt.
    || When this unit hits a target, it has a 50% chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.
    || When this Unit hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.
Why pick this unit: Madcap Magus has a solid set of abilities that offer a more offensive potential. Scattershot makes its attacks unpredictable that can deal with the back row while Life Leech helps it stay alive longer by increasing health per attack. With Affliction and Dispel it can disrupt healing and buffs from the enemy making it a great support with 2 magic damage.

    || Restores a third of max health to the Unit in the first position each round.
    || When this unit hits a target, it has a 50% chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.
    || Reduces the Magic attack of all enemy Units by 1.
    || When this Unit hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.
Why pick this unit: Goblin Psychic brings strong utility with its Tank Heal ability. The Affliction and Silence debuff is also great against heavy magic teams and those that relies on heal. Dispel adds another layer of control to remove opponent's positive buffs during the battle. The 2 magic damage may not be a lot but its healing role makes up for it in this lineup.

    || Heals the friendly back-line Unit that has taken the most damage by a third of max Health.
    || When this Unit hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.
    || All enemy Melee & Ranged attacks have a 15% higher chance of missing their target.

Why pick this unit: Spirit Hoarder is a versatile unit with Triage healing backline damage and Blind increasing enemy miss chances. Dispel adds utility against buffed enemies and its 2 damage is low but useful for chip damage. A great backline support unit that keeps your team going.

    || All enemy Units target this Unit (if they are able to).
    || This Unit takes only 1 damage from attacks with power 5 or higher.
    || Reduces the Speed of all enemy Units by 1.

Why pick this unit: Mycelic Slipspawn is a massive magic tank with Taunt drawing all enemy attacks towards it as it sits on the back. With Forcefield reducing high damage attacks and Slow debuffing enemy speed this unit can stall the enemy team. At 3 magic damage and 12 health it’s both an offensive and defensive force. It's a great combination with Spirit Hoarder due to its Triage.

    || This Unit cannot be directly targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position.
    || Reduced damage from Magic attacks by 50%.
    || Reduces the health of all enemy Units by 1.

Why pick this unit: Djinn Biljka is a stealthy support unit with Camouflage protecting it from direct attacks until it's in the first position. Void reduces incoming magic damage once he gets to that point and Weaken reduces enemy health making them easier to take down. It's not the strongest unt but its supportive abilities can make a difference especially in a magic heavy lineup.

    Summary

Due to the rule set, this was a very easy battle. I like using Obsidian magic-focused teams due to its simplicity. Not because they are simple to use means that they are also weak. The lineup itself is quite strong and durable because of the easy access to Mycelic Slipspawn. Djinn Biljka is also a very useful low mana unit even though it has low health, the Camouflage ability can hide this weakness by making it untargetable. This gives you a reliable high damage unit that can only be killed once your whole team falls.
