This post was made as entry for Splinterlands Art Challenge
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I really like Splinterlands character designs. It has some uniqueness built into it. You can also see the changes of the art from how simple it is when it was in Alpha to how complicated they look now in Rebellion. The quality just went upwards each time.
I often imagine myself how it would look 5 or 10 years from now? And since I don't have any art skills except my colorful language, I thought of getting help with Google's AI technology to make it come to fruition. The images you will see below is my first batches of doing this and I've got to say that this AI art is really an art. It's easy to make the art look pretty but it isn't easy to make it look what you want it to be.
Prompt: Create an image of a fierce, humanoid female creature with a monstrous appearance. She has a green, almost goblin-like complexion with visible scars and wounds revealing torn violet muscles on her thighs and arms. Her short, reddish-pink hair is messy and stands out against her pale skin. She has glowing yellow eyes and a wide, open mouth revealing sharp teeth, suggesting a really menacing and really aggressive screaming expression.
She's wearing a red skirt and has a muscular build similar to hulk transforming, further emphasizing her strength and potentially aggressive nature. Her arms are wrapped in bandages, and she has gold shoulder armor, hinting at some kind of protective gear or cultural significance.
The background is a simple gradient, shifting from dark gray to a lighter shade, focusing attention on the subject. The overall atmosphere is one of menace and intensity.
This is Radiated Brute a reliable melee fire unit. She was my first test subject when I was trying out generative AI with Google Gemini. I was checking if I can recreate Splinterlands units and give them an updated look. I initially gave it a prompt using She-Hulk as example but it's not taking it so I had to be creative.
Just to give you a clue, the longer the prompts, the more failed attempts I had. It became longer and longer due to adding more details to make it as close as possible to what I wanted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prompt: Create an anime or Japanese cartoon style illustration in Halloween themed of a goblin tower made from used wood patched together to make a rectangular goblin tower. Add more designs to the tower to make it more halloween themed.
The goblins are showing their sharp teeth and green skin. The tower should be dark and brooding. One goblin inside the tower should be seen holding a broom and a fork peeking, and the another goblin should be peeking out from a window, holding a plate. At the very top is a cannon made from a cooking pot where a goblin is peeking.
This was one of the failed attempt during the creation of a more halloween themed goblin tower on Early Halloween in Splinterlands post. I don't know why but Google Gemini decided to ignore a lot of my prompts and do its own version. I liked it though so I saved it.
It took me a while to get it to what it looked like on my halloween post.
Final Prompt: Create a whimsical, cartoonish character with a large, orange mushroom-like hat. They have a slender, humanoid body with a green face and are wearing an orange outfit. Their hands are glowing with blue energy, and they appear to be holding a staff or a sword. The background is a dark magical, mystical forest full of life. Add some wildlife to make the background more realistic.
Madcap Magus's AI version was a miracle. I was able to make it with just a few attempts and was surprised at how close the AI one to the original. I picked him because he was becoming one of my favorite Earth magic units. The Life Steal is just amazing!
Final Prompt: Create a cartoon-style image of a light brown bearded man with a normal pair of ear, a pair of white feathered wings. He's wearing a green vest over a gray shirt and has a tool belt across his chest diagonally with various pouches and items such as screwdriver, knife and potions. In one hand, he holds a small wooden crate filled with colorful potions. In the other, he's scratching his beard thoughtfully. The background is a a giant tree where he sits on it. You can see a magical forest behind him from a high view.
Pelacor Mercenary was my latest AI update. I like how close this one is to the Splinterlands design. I think I did great on this one to capture Pelacor Mercenary's appeal. I guess, the more specific items like, "screwdriver, knife and potions," the easier Gemini can replicate your vision.
