Greetings to all the members of the Hive Blockchain community, most especially those who enjoy playing Splinterlands. I would like to feature Jared Scar in my come-from-behind win against one of the top Gold tier players in the game.
The Game
Healed Out - All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners
Melee Mayhem - Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position
Mana cap = 28
Splinters = Fire, Earth, Life or Death
My choice of splinter started with my usual process of elimination. I did not go for Earth because my Earth cards are highly dependent on healing. Nor did I go for Death as my main tank, the Cursed Windeku, would not be as effective without its regeneration. I was then left with Fire or Life. It is basically a choice between Yodin or Lorna Shine. I decided to go for the latter as I thought Jared Scar can dominate this battle.
Jared Scar
Jared Scar may appear weak at first, but once it gets its first two kills, he will definitely be unstoppable! At level three, he has Bloodlust (improves his stats after every kill), True Strike (will not miss), and Piercing (its damage will cut through enemy's armor). My strategy is, I need to put him in a place where he cannot be attacked but he can still get kills. He is not a good primary tank. He needs time to grow his strength. This calls for certain rule sets, specifically Melee Mayhem and Equal Opportunity. So, when I saw Melee Mayhem, I definitely had to use him!
The Lineup
The first one in the team is of course our star Jared Scar. I then chose a main tank. It was either my usual anti-magic flyer Pelacor Conjurer or the anti-giant Chaos Knight. I went for the latter as I had to do damage to my enemy's primary tank to prime it up for Jared Scar's final blow. Besides, if my opponent used a magic lineup, it would most likely be slow, which would be advantageous to me. I then chose Time Mage for the slow and removal of armor. I put Vulguine as my secondary tank as it works well in Melee Mayhem. Then I included the greatest Monster card now - Doctor Blight. And then, I tossed in Celestial Harpy to do more damage and somehow protect my backline against Melee sneak attackers.
Initial Disappointment
When the cards were revealed, I thought I lost the battle already. First, my opponent was TEEJAYS. He is a top leaderboard player in the Gold tier. Second, he sported archers who were quick. It would be a good matchup for my Chaos Knight, but I thought it would be bad for the rest of my team. I hit RUMBLE! and in Round 1, my Time Mage was sniped down by his archers. Teejays' cards recovered their shields and speed. At that moment, I thought I lost the battle so I hit skip. But lo and behold, I came out as the winner!

The Outcome
I invite you to watch the battle using the link above, but in the interest of time, what basically happened was Jared Scar. Given enough kills, he becomes an unrelenting beast! After seeing my surprise win, I watched the battle again. Despite losing Time Mage, Jared cut through my enemy's armor. It was helpful that most of my other cards attacked their target first before Jared did. After he got two kills, I knew he will breeze through the rest of the enemy's cards as the archers cannot attack at the first position.
Rating
10 out of 10
With the appropriate rule sets and proper positioning, Jared Scar can carry your team towards victory. Better try for yourself to witness this beast in action!
