So SPS rewards for Splinterlands license holders have been paused for a couple of weeks as the SPS Validator Network is in the process of going live...
I say in the process of going live as you can currently set up yer node using some gibberish-for-non-coders on GITHUB if you can be bothered to rent a server and can be arsed, but they currently have limited functionality.
I guess if you can code then it's not so much gibberish.
Anyways, if you've got any SPS nodes and you want to go full on DIY then you'll need to rent a server, or run your own, and cut and past that code into it....
ATM as I understand it the nodes are only validating SPS txs rather than rewards on licences, that function will be made live in about a week.
Then there's another week to give License holders and chance to stake their licences.
Stake to what...?
Well you can currently 'activate' them by staking, but I can't really see the point as you can't stake them to anything.
I assume that when we go to next level live in about a week then you'll get options to delegate them to your own node or to someone else's node.
One node per SPS licence holder, more or less...
For those not wanting to run their own server I think it's going to be fairly straightforward.... someone else sets up a node for you on their server and then you delegate your nodes to that server and sets rewards to your account.
So there are going to end up being as many nodes as there are unique entities wanting to receive rewards, those entities being either individuals or groups.
And I imagine most individual license holders are going to want their own node and all their licenses staked to that node and all their rewards going to them.
Naturally there may be some who want to gift their rewards to other accounts, so it won't quite be a 1-1 relationship.
This is the best summary of what's occurin' I've seen thus far...
Server rental services coming soon I imagine....
So probably what'll happen is some of the larger licence holders will set up their own servers and run their own node, and they will have some server space left over to rent out to other non-coders.
So I imagine there will be greater economics of scale for one server running say 50 nodes rather than 10.
The market will sort it out, but I'm not sure what kind of rental deal we'll get as non-coders, but it'll probably be cheaper than renting out yer own server space, just purely for SPS nodes.
Certainly for me renting and paying say 10% to the person who rents me out a slither would be desirable, I've only got 5 licences so I don't imagine it would be economical to run my own node.
Final thoughts...
It's pretty cool actually knowing that SPS is going independent if you like, decentralised as far as SPS whales, certainly better than one point of issuance.
It is progress.
Oh, and *I am literally patting myself of the back RN

That is how theta is doing it.
I stake to somebody else's node, they get ~4% and the rest comes to me.
I'd take 4%!
