Over the years whenever there is a new element introduced by Splinterlands I try to get some exposure to it depending on how much liquidity I have available at that time. I have been following this approach for all of their card collection starting from Untamed and then continuing for Chaos and Rebellion sets. When they launched RUNIs I moved some of my PFP NFT flipping profits and at one point I was holding 3 RUNIs. Later I sold 2 of those as I need to free up some funds to try out some other projects but I decided I will always keep 1 forever as I really liked the special background colour it had, I have this RUNI as my PFP in most of my social media accounts.
When Splinterlands announced Land expansion I got hold of 3 land plots and later when they rolled out mechanism of how resources could be generated from these land plots I started putting my best resources on them to farm.
My Land Harvesting Strategy on Splinterlands!
I soon realised that making the land plots productive was no easy task like just buying up a few packs of cards. It required careful selection of high power cards to get max output. It added an additional utility to Wild cards as they have much higher power than new series cards. The power of a Untamed GoldFoil is way higher than a Gold foil from Chaos or rebellion. This also led to a surge in demand of Untamed GoldFoil cards when resource production was rolled out.
I also noticed that with the GoldFoil cards I had and being left with just 1 RUNI I could only make 1 of my land plots highly productive and the other 2 will be average productive.
There were 3 resources available to harvest - Grain, Research and SPS. Grain was a basic material that was needed for all transactions on land so I decided to use my most productive plot for Grain production and the other 2 plots for Research and SPS.
Hitting My First Milestone of Grain Harvesting!
I knew further upgrades related to land will be introduced soon so in preparation I regularly started harvesting and stocking up the Grain. Yesterday I hit my much awaited milestone of 1 million Grain which seemed to have taken forever to accumulate.
When I checked the DEC value of this grain I saw it was less than $10. I think there is no point selling off grain at this point at these rates and I am planning to keep accumulating more of the Grain as I think it definitely will be useful when other use cases for land are launched. I have been seeing some rumours on Crypto Twitter/X that these may soon be announced and there will be additional materials available on land.
What Next with my Land Strategy!
I think right now the land plots are really undervalued with many of them available for as low as $15. I might pick up a few more plots in the coming weeks but I am careful as I know that the main reason the land plots are so cheap is that small Splinterlands users can’t do anything with the land as to make a plot even decently productive you need to spend $500 - $1,000 to buy high power gold foil cards and if you want RUNI os some Untamed GoldFoils this figure can easily go beyond $2,000.
This is the reason why many smaller players have started giving away their plots at throw-away rates and also some of the bigger OG players are dumping some of their plots as they know that maintaining a very high number of plots will be a challenging task for them as well. I hope Splinterlands introduces some use cases where even new players can do something with land plots with small investments. Let’s wait and watch how this unfolds. I am really bullish on Land in the long term.
