Splinterlands is one of the OG blockchain based games which has been successfully running for about 6 years now which is about a gazillion years in crypto world.
It has seen several cycles of ups and downs and most importantly come back stronger after each low phase. One of the key factors to ensure that is a committed user base who just keeps playing irrespective of the fact whether the price of their cards is going up or down.
I have been part of this game for close to 5 years now and have seen it evolve through several card collections, gameplay changes, reward restructuring, land expansion etc. Some changes I like some not so much but still I have stuck around.
It is evident by now that this game is built to thrive in all sorts of market conditions and will keep evolving through the coming cycles.
The game specially from a price perspective of it’s NFT based cards has been in a bit of a slump during the last year and I have a strong hunch that is going to change in 2025.
In this post I will be covering what are the main developments I am expecting to see in Splinterlands during 2025.
1. Card Prices Across Wild and Modern Collections will Go UP!!
Before you declare me a hopeless optimist let me share some thoughts about why I think we are going to see a surge in the precious NFT based cards we are holding in Splinterlands.
During the last 1-2 years crypto markets had been in an extended bearish phase, specially NFTs and Crypo Gaming sectors took a major beating and slumped to all time low levels.
As the BTC bull run gains momentum big number of newbies will get interested about crypto and a good fraction of them will be interested in gaming. They are going to realise Splinterlands is one of the oldest and safest crypto game around. As the user base grows it is going to create demand for the card collections and everyone will live happily ever after (or until the next market crash).
2. RUNI is Going to be one the Biggest NFT Collections on Ethereum!
I will not go into details if you are not familiar with RUNIs but let just give an overview. Splinterlands game NFTs run on HIVE blockchain but it has a special limited edition collection of NFTs called RUNI that run on Ethereum. There are just 3,500 of them and during land expansion phase when the first set of utilities were introduced for RUNI the collection saw a price frenzy.
During 2025 I expect further use cases for RUNI to be launched and it will harmoniously coincide with the growing demand for OG NFT collections. RUNI will be in a sweet spot and it’s current floor of 0.1 ETH can go anywhere from 1-5 ETH and I won’t be surprised if some of the fancy RUNIs may fetch exorbitant bids in excess of 10 ETH. It may sound far fetched but when it happens it will be a life changing moment for many RUNI holders.
3. Land will Gain Attention Again!
When Land expansion was launched by Splinterlands there was a good interest by the users and many setup their farms diligently assigning RUNIs, Worker NFT cards. Setting up grain harvesting. Frankly speaking it was quite an elaborate process not very newbie friendly so it is on a bit of a back burner at the moment. Land prices which had soared over $200 per plot as some time crashed to $10 levels as many small players frantically started selling their plots realising they did not have the resources to run their lands in a practical manner.
This I think will change in 2025 when new players and funds inflow comes and the lands become green again.
If for some unfathomable reason you have still not had a go at Splinterlands then now is a great time to start. I must clarify that I usually promote free to play or participate projects but Splinterlands has a entry free of $10. This is required to purchase the started pack called SpellBook.
I also had my apprehensions when I was pondering whether to click the buy button on $10 SpellBook 5 years ago and today I am really glad I did that and jumped down the Splinterlands rabbit hole. And yes even after 5 years the SpellBook still costs the same $10.
