Hey folks, thanks for clicking on the article and spending 5 minutes of your time reading this article. As many are aware, there were a lot of accounts that have been phished for their DEC and was spent on rental to an account (most likely the hacker). A lot of the accounts or players who was phished seemed to be from the PH server, so the hacker is most likely targeting the players from the PH server of the Splinterlands family.
Some key information for new Hive users
(from Hive new account)
- Backup your password
Unlike centralized web services, it is not possible to recover lost passwords on the Hive blockchain.
You are entirely responsible for saving your password, backing it up, and keeping it secure. Never put your password into unverified third party websites as they may steal your account. Store an offline copy of your password somewhere safe in case of a hard drive failure or other calamity. Consider using a flash drive, secure cloud storage, or simply print it on paper.
- Obtain and backup your keys
Your keys are available from your Wallet page. Back them up and keep them secure!
Owner Key: Used for changing other keys.
Active Key: Used to manage your funds and participate in governance.
Posting Key: Used to post and comment.
Memo Key: Used for decrypting encrypted memos.
So lets dive in on some tips in "How to Protect your account"
1. Please refrain from using bot services. There may be some legitimate bot services out there, but there are more fake bot services than real ones.
Using some of Kanye's wise words in this advice: Go the Splinterlands way or go the highway (high price to pay way).
2. Remember that admins of both discord and telegram would not slide into your direct messages **first. **Admins will only message you back if you message them first. A common mistake people make when talking to fake admins is seeing very similar @names or names that include "Admin Support Team".
Always remember: Admins do not DM first nor will they ask you for master key, private key, or any personal information.
Moral of the story: Kids, please don't talk to strangers.
3. Do not use third party services as they are NOT affiliated with Splinterlands.
