Introduction
Hello everyone! Welcome back to my Weekly Battle Challenge! This time I was lucky and received a featured Ruleset on the first day of battles!
The Ruleset of this week's challenge is: Briar Patch
All monsters receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy monsters that use melee attacks receive damage back.
The key to winning this Ruleset is to bring Ranged and Magic attacking monsters, Melee attackers have a disadvantage as long as they don't have Reflection Shield ability. Amplifying monsters are also a good pick in this Ruleset if you suspect your opponent will bring Melee attackers regardless. It is also recommended to bring Headwinds and Silence abilities to further reduce the expected damage from Ranged and Magic monsters.
Featured battle allowed a total of 13 mana to be spent, and the open elements were Fire, Water, Earth, Life, and Dragon. The Ruleset combination was completed with Back to Basics and the new - Are you not Entertained ruleset.
My Team:
Quix The Devious was chosen because of the point of speed manipulation and decrease of Ranged damage since I was expecting my opponent to bring Ranged and Magic damage dealers.
Pelacor Conjurer is my first line of defense against the opposing team, providing 7 health points for only 2 mana.
Soul Fiend is here to take a hit instead of the Void Dragon, once the Pelacor Conjurer gets defeated.
Void Dragon is another card that provides a good amount of health for the mana cost all while dealing 1 point of Magic damage at a fast speed.
The main damage dealer on my team. Naga Assassin is a fantastic Ranged damage dealer providing 2 damage for 2 mana. She is the last creature in my line-up, protected by a total of 17 health points before her.
Battle Strategy
My battle strategy was to bring as much damage and health for 13 mana. I decided that Naga Assassin will be on a hard-carry duty, and protected her with Pelacor Conjurer, Soul Fiend, and Void Dragon.
Battle Link
Turn 1
The opponent's Fungus Fiend fainted and Regal Peryton took some damage, on the other side my Pelacor Conjurer still stands still with 2 health points. The battle is looking good for me.
Turn 2
My Pelacor Conjurer and Soul Fiend are defeated. Opponent's Peryton is almost defeated and once that happens, Ranged creatures won't be able to attack from the first position.
Turn 3
This turn is pretty uneventful - both front liners took some damage.
Turn 4
Regal Peryton finally gets defeated and the opponent is left with a single attacking monster that does 1 ranged damage per turn.
Turn 5
Acid Shooter is defeated and the opponent doesn't stand a chance against Void Dragon and Naga Assassin anymore.
Turn 6
Xenith Archer is unable to attack and is awaiting for my team to finish the battle.
Turn 7
Naga Assassin delivers a finishing blow to the opposing Xenith Archer and the battle is finally over.
Battle Rewards
Conclusion
Quix The Devious was a fantastic summoner choice for the speed manipulation and reduction of Ranged damage, which, in this case, was great since the opponent brought 2 Ranged attackers. The opponent chose Magic boost with Obsidian but didn't bring more Magic damage dealers to take full advantage of the boost. In the end, my team had more health points and once Regal Peryton was defeated, Acid Shooter was unable to attack, which cemented my victory.
