Battle Mage Weekly Challenge: Close Range

in #splinterlands2 years ago

Introduction

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my Battle Mage Weekly Challenge post featuring the Close Range ruleset!

Battle Ruleset:

This ruleset allows ranged monsters to attack from first position as if they had the Close Range ability. A good monsters to include in this ruleset are those that have Headwinds and Return Fire abilities.

The featured battle allowed Fire, Earth, Life and Death elements to be played with a total mana cap of 38. The Ruleset combination was completed with Aim True and Healed Out rulesets.

My Team:

Thaddius Brood was my summoner choice in this battle because of the always usable -1 to magic and health. Death element allows me to use some strong ranged attackers as well.

Pelacor Deceiver was chosen as a frontliner for its great stats of 3 melee damage, 4 speed and impressive 10 health for only 5 mana.

Revealer is one of my most picked Death cards due to the great magic damage for the mana cost, as well as the Stun ability, which is always nice when playing with some speed manipulation.

Venari Bonesmith is also one of my go-to Death cards to play. Another card with great damage to mana ratio with Life Leech and Poison abilities on top of it.

Dhampir Stalker was chosen to take advantage of the Close Range ruleset. He brings a lot of damage to my team.

Lira the Dark is what I had in mind when choosing Death element. She's my favourite archer from the Death element bringing Opportunity and Swiftness to the battle.

Suplly Runner is another Neutral card that I like to use a lot. He's particularly good in this battle because of the ruleset and Swiftness brining my total speed manipulation to 2 points.

Battle Strategy

My strategy was to go faster than my opponent with 2 points of speed manipulation from Lira the Dark and Supply Runner, and finish off opponent before he/she can attack back. I brought a mix of mostly magic and ranged damage, with a possibility of Stun and Poison.

Battle Link

Turn 1

Lira attacked and brought down Xenith Archer as soon as the battle started. On my side, Pelacor Deceiver and Revealer were defeated, but I managed to Poison and Stun opposing Uriel - which goes down to the poison damage.

Turn 2

Since my team is faster, Venari Marksrat, Venari Crystalsmith and Pelacor Arbalest are all defeated before being abe to attack. Prismologist defeated Venari Bonesmith, but she is alone against 3 of my remaining archer monsters.

Turn 3

Prismologist is defeated by a combination of attacks from Lira and Supply Runner.

Tournament Rewards

This was a battle from a recent Diamond League Tournament. As you can see from the picture above, I was able to secure 20 SPS in rewards with average score of 9-13. Keep in mind that the entry fee for this Tournament was only 4 SPS.

Conclusion

All in all, my strategy turned out to be a decent one. My opponent brought a lot of ranged monsters to the battle to take advantage of the +1 boost to ranged damage from General Sloan. I, on the other hand, decided to bring a mixed attackers of all damage types, and most importantly, 2 points of speed manipulation from Lira and Supply Runner.

If you'd like to give this amazing game a chance, please consider using my refferal code.
