I really like Cruel Sethropod. I think it is a really nice tank if you have Little League ruleset. However it can be good in other situations as well.

It is a common chaos legion card therefore everyone has it because it is part of the basic cards. I personally do own a copy of it. As you can see in the table below at the moment it is no longer a cheap card as a regural foil nor as a gold foil. I think it is due to the new format (Modern/Wild) and the new DEC reward rules. There are a lot of available copies at the moment.

Here comes the battle:

I was in silver 3 at the time of the battle. As you can see I had an interesting ruleset.
Rules:

Battle modifiersMana capAvailable splinters
Noxious Fumes40Water
Reverse Speed-Earth
--Life
--Death
--Dragon

So what did I chose to do?

For Summoner: Bortus it will decrease the enemy monster's magic damage (if there is any) by 1. I had other summoners besides this, but I chose Brtus to reduce the magic damage of my enemy's monsters, because I assumed that my enemy will bring the Earth team and nowdays Earth is about magic damage.

Monsters:

  • Wave Brood I rarely use this card, mostly because I do not own it (I'm renting it usually for Brawls) but in some situations it can be useful. This is such a situation. It has Taunt ability, high health and Close range ability. The rules needed high health and low speed monsters this is both.
  • River Nymph it's relatively slow and it has the antidote for Noxius Fumes ruleset via it's ability: Cleanse. You can see that this card almost always present with this rule, and it's not a coincidence.
  • Nerissa Tridawn relatively low speed, but high magic damage, when I have it rented and the mana is high enough then I'm using it always.
  • Mantoid at that time I had a Snpier quest so I put Mantiod into the battle to conform the quest rules. I think the Chaos Legion cards are about Sneak, before CL in the Untamed era I used this almost every game, now it's rarely used by me.
  • Gelatinous Cube I usually use this card with Noxius Fumes ruleset because of it's Scavenger ability. In this ruleset it's really important to keep increasing the health of your monsters, Scavenger does this.
  • Cruel Sethropod today's star, I put it in the last position to cover against Sneak monsters. It's low speed is an advantage in Reverse Speed ruleset. I'd hoped that it can give the enemy some nasty misses.

Did my strategy work?

Yes, I won the battle. It was a nice win because my enemy brought Earth team with Magic damage.

What will I try differently next time?

Given this ruleset I would not change my lineup. I know that it was a risky tactic, but sometimes you have to risk to win.

Thanks for the reading, I hope you enjoyed, see you on the battlefield!
