@zyllarx
Hi guys. Zyl here. I've picked up this game and bought the spellbook in June 2021 which was a couple of months back. Back then I had very limited knowledge of the game and there was not much resources or guides available. I played for a few days, skipped the land sale and stopped playing entirely.
I got back into Splinterlands after SPS Airdrop was implemented and land prices went 10x in August 2021. Land prices are at around 450 Dollars(~20x) per plot as of writing. I managed to snag 3 plots off WAX for about 200 Dollars each.
Below is the report card for the season of Ranked play that I participated since I got back to the game. I hope I can do better in the current and upcoming seasons.

I stayed in Silver I for most of the season and then rank up on the final day to Gold III just before the season ends. I've tried doing a few matches in Gold III but it was not easy as my summoners and monsters are not very high level.

Rented a maxed level Alric(water summoner with +1 Magic damage to all friendly monsters) and a Dark Ha'on for the season. In hindsight, I should have rented a level 4 or 5 Alric instead of a maxed level one to save some DEC off rentals.

SPS Airdrops were consistent most days. Staking SPS is always rewarding.
Picking up Splinterlands in August is not easy as the untamed packs and dice packs are sold out and are only available for sale on 3rd party markets such as HIVE and WAX.
The upcoming Chaos Legion set and new ranked format, would hopefully make it easier for new players to acquire cards to do well and competitively, without breaking bank.
