We have all heard the phrase "healthy mind in healthy body", which is usually used to refer to exercise routines or healthy lifestyles.

To learn more about this famous event, below we share 5 curious facts about it:

1 The phrase is part of a prayer to the gods written by the Roman poet Decimus Iunius Iuvenalis (better known Juvenal, who lived between the end of the first century and the beginning of the second century of our era).

2 The complete quotation, in Latin, is "Orandum est ut sit mens sāna in corpore sānō", which translated into English says: "We must pray to the gods to grant us a healthy mind in a healthy body."

3 From the nineteenth century, the phrase no longer referred to the balance of mind and body, but more specifically to the care of the body, which would result in a healthier mind.

4 It is said that the Frenchman Pierre Fredy de Coubertin was inspired by this phrase to create the modern Olympic Games, whose first edition was in Athens, Grace, in 1896.

5 Yoga could be considered as the current variant of its meaning, as well as the rest of oriental practices and the use of mantras of Hindu or Buddhist origin that help to achieve a meditative state of relaxation and balance between the mind and the body .

Without a doubt it is a phrase that has accompanied the world of sports since its inception, as it accurately reflects the spirit of well-being with oneself.
