NRL FINAL SERIES HAS BEEN LAUNCHED
The 2017 NRL Telstra Premiership Finals Series was launched in spectacular fashion this week with stars from all eight Finals Series teams coming together at ANZ Stadium.
Cameron Smith (Melbourne Storm), Jake Friend (Sydney Roosters), Sam Thaiday (Brisbane Broncos), Tim Mannah (Parramatta Eels), Paul Gallen (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks), Daly Cherry-Evans (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles), Peter Wallace (Penrith Panthers) and Gavin Cooper (North Queensland Cowboys) gathered ahead of what shapes as an extraordinary Finals Series.
TONIGHT
Qualifying Final: Friday, September 8, 7.55pm, Allianz Stadium
NRL: Sydney Roosters (2) v Brisbane Broncos (3)
Holden Cup: Brisbane Broncos (6) v Newcastle Knights (7); 5.15pm
Sydney Roosters v Brisbane Broncos
The Official Schick Preview
The winner of tonight's match will earn a much-needed week off while the loser will receive a second chance at home in Week Two of the finals.
Both teams head into the qualifying final with winning form after the Roosters survived a scare to scrape past the Titans while the Broncos did enough to see off fierce rivals the Cowboys in Townsville.
Our observations
We at Community News note that the Roosters will be playing tonight at full strength. Unfortunately the Broncos are down Boyd (hamstring), with Nikorima shifting to Fullback and the Veteran Benji Marshall coming into the halfback position. And as all footy fans know... when Benji is on the field - anything can happen... and generally does.
We are expecting a Roosters victory tonight, so are the bookies (Roosters $1.60 favourite with Sportsbet) and so are they... evidenced by their promo picture below.
'The year of the Rooster' - what do you think?

The winner of tonites game to meet Melbourne in the Grand Final.
Could be the biggest game of the finals series. I'm on the Roosters.
Good call B.
Roosters 32 : 30 with a last minute comeback to win.
Benji to score a try off a lucky kick and chase.
That is a lot of points. I think both teams will defend a bit better than that.
Benji to overplay his hand, run sideways, make 3+ errors and at least one of them lead to a Roosters try....
Right @buggedout - I just placed a lazy $10 on Roosters 1-12 margin paying $2.80 with - just to keep things interesting! SK.
Sounds about right. I'd even have a smidge on the draw too. Golden point would not surprise me AT ALL.
How was the fend and try by Mitchell just now... and Benji having a good game! Now just need Roosters to hang on for 3 minutes.
Yes, it was pretty awesome. Nice job with your margin bet. I think in the end we both pretty much got it right.
It's going to be hard to top that game for entertainment value, so I maintain it was probably the biggest game of the finals series.
Hahahaha - most certainly run sideways.
Congratulations Senior Editor SirKnight. Roosters win 24:22 in a last minute comeback. You are closest to the score with correct result and exact margin!
