Jawa_Speedway_500_01.JPGSpeedway - a class of sports motorcycles to which a motorcycle belonging to a given group belongs. This segment includes high performance motorcycles from popular Jawa brands. Motorcycles of this group are characterized by the highest performance, very high weight (minimum 77 kg) and no brakes.

The only Polish speedway motorcycle was WSK FIS. It was constructed in 1953-1954 in Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego in Rzeszów by Tadeusz Fedka and Romuald Iżewski, who were employees of WSK and members of the Stal Rzeszów club.

Currently, motorcycles used in speedway sports are special constructions, intended only for racing. They do not have gearboxes, brakes and no lighting, they are structurally designed to drive left (although the steering wheel turns in both directions) and to overcome arches with a controlled slide. In classical slag, the engines have a displacement of up to 500 cm3 and burn pure methyl alcohol - i.e. methanol. The capacity of the tank is an average of 1.5-2 liters of fuel.
