Kimi Raikkonen and World Rally Championship

in #sport7 years ago

Hi, Steemers!

I heard that Kimi still owns Fiat Grande Punto S2000 from his Ferrari days in 2009. Car is somewhere in the Makinen's garages (current Toyota World Rally team boss and four times World Rally Champion).

Like all the other Finns he is fan of rallying. He started his rallying career with that Fiat Grande Punto S2000 and we know that Fiat was one of the first manufacturers that produced S2000 cars.
In that 2009 he started Neste Rally Finland and crashed out on last special stage of the 2nd day of competition. That was the only WRC rally that he started that year.

After being fired from Ferrari at the end of 2009 (some say because of his negative public and marketing approach) he decided to go to rallying for 2010. His main sponsor became RedBull so he drove for Citroen (logically because Red Bull was their biggest sponsor). The car was championship winning C4 WRC.

Results were as expected for a newbie with the best 5th place on gravel of Turkey.
In 2011 he established his own team Ice1 Racing with the new Citroen DS3 WRC (car built for the new FIA regulations with 1.6 turbo engine).
That season he didn't have some better results beside two 6th places (on gravel in Jordan and on tarmac in Germany).

In 2012 he went back to Formula 1 and the rest is the history.
