Liverpool want Thomas Lemar to replace Philippe Coutinho - and are ready to try to make it happen this month.
Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has identified the France star as his No.1 target to slot into Coutinho’s boots after his £145m move to Barcelona.
Monaco are making it clear that they do not want to sell Lemar in January but Liverpool are ready to test their resolve given any encouragement.
Lemar is keen on making a switch to Liverpool despite interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Monaco accepted a £90m bid from Arsenal in August - only for the deal to fall down - after stressing all summer he was not for sale. That sort of money may tempt them again.
Liverpool will not be held to ransom in January and will not panic if they cannot get a deal done as Klopp believes he already has the talent in his squad for the rest of the campaign with the battle for a top four place and they are in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Klopp has already stressed that he “will react in the right way” and they will be ready to move on Lemar if they feel they can get him now.
