Gareth Southgate Speeds Up UK Skip Announcement For the 2018 World Cup

Gareth Southgate will not linger to announce his squad for the 2018 World Cup.
As is known, the England national team's manager had until May 14 to submit a list of 35 names belonging to the shadow squad to FIFA, before it was trimmed again to 23 names on June 4, just two days after the next test match against Nigeria.
Even so, Southgate will set his core squad long before that so his players can focus, and the announcement that he will make after the end of the English Premier League season this time.

"I want to [announce the core squad before the next trial] because you want to hold a performance camp rather than a selection camp," said Southgate. "I think there is a difference that can be felt all.
"If you announce 28 names, they're not sure. But if you announce 23 names and five other names in a standby position - which Sven [Goran Eriksson] does well - then everything will know their respective positions.
"Those who standby have a chance but when they follow the camp they already know that it is his role.
"If you have 28 or 30 names who think they might have a chance, then there will be a lot of uncertainty and anxiety in the game.
"For me, it's better to secure 23 names and work from there."
In Russia later, England are drawn in Group G with Panama, Tunisia and Belgium. They will play their first party against Tunisia in Volgograd Arena on 19 June.
