In September 1988, the Olympic Games opened in Seoul. For the second time after the Tokyo Olympics, they were held in the capital of an Asian state and became one of the most massive in the history of the Olympic movement.
There were more than twenty thousand participants, athletes, coaches, administrators and journalists. There are more than 3 billion viewers who watched the competitions.
For two countries, the USSR and the GDR, the Olympics in Seoul became the last. And it was these teams that proved themselves better than others.
132 medals and 1st place in the team competition for Soviet athletes and 102 medals, 2nd place for athletes from the GDR. The bronze went to the Americans
