Another half distance race in Belgium

Big news this Sunday at Knokke-Heist. After a yearlong fruitful organisation of the Zwintriatlon, the international Olympic has been given a long distance brother. On Saturday, 08/09, the Knokke half triathlon will take place. The start is once again given in the Netherlands at Sluis and the bike course will flirt with the border in the polders. We heard rumors that Knokke intends to host a 70.3 event in 2019, it seems that 08/09 might be a dress rehearsal...

The Zwintriatlon is a yearly event on the first Wednesday of September and with 900 participants in 15 waves one of the largest Olympic triathlons in Belgium. In 2018 the Olympic will take place on 05/09, three days later it's time for the long distance. The start will be on the same spot, but the long distance athletes will have a separate finishing area at Duinbergen. The registration for the 1.9/90/21 race is open, more info will follow in May. Link to registration form.

A few months ago there were the first rumors of a nearing 70.3 event by Belgian organizers. A few weeks ago Knokke was mentioned as one of the main contenders. September is traditionally a very busy period and the half distance race would barge in straight between the half distance of Deinze and the half distance in Damme, making 2018 abundant for half distance racers. We look forward to see if anyone dares to tackle the Zwintriatlon combination...
