Sports: F1 Canada GP Qualifying Review - Typical Canadian GP Fun!

in #sports7 years ago

Hi fellow Steemians!

A little late with this post since the Qualifying for the Canadian GP finished hours ago, but still, let's go through what happened!

Could Haas be any unluckier?

We saw so many unlucky mistakes and misfortunes with Haas so far this year and yet again, they suffered from a mechanical problem. At the start of Q1, Grosjean's car suffered from oil leaking into the turbo and spewed out so much smoke. He had to ultimately retire from the qualifying session and starts on P20. His teammate K-Mag fared better and starts on P11.

Fight for the front row!

Many new track records and fights for the pole position! All the big boys, Ferrari, Mercedes and Redbull looked like they were in contention for the pole position and in the end, it was Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel that won out in the end. One thing to note is the 1st place (Vettel) and 4th place (Hamilton) are only separated by 0.23 seconds and Bottas (2nd place) is only 0.093 seconds slower than Vettel. I think we can expect a fierce race tomorrow!

Testing the limits

Canada's notorious for testing the limits of the boundary of the track and it was no different today. Ericsson retired in Q1 after hitting the wall in sector 2. We also saw Sainz also hit the wall in practice and Vandoorne escaping a crash, driving into escape road. It should be interesting to see the drivers fighting against each other and against the track.

Conclusion

In my last post, I said that I expected Hamilton to dominate Canadian GP again. After the qualifying session, my confidence in that prediction has lowered dramatically. Of course, pole position doesn't mean a win but Ferrari and Redbull look just as quick as the Mercedes. Whoever the winner may be, it should be a much more exciting race than the Monaco GP!
