Matic is hardly a long term replacement when you consider he is 29. Great signing though, Jose is probably the best coach in world football for delivering short term Sucess

Well.....Jose is very good!
As for Matic.....i give him 5 - 6 years at the top. If Carrick can still do it at 36 years....why can't Matic?
5-6 years will put matic at 34-35.Its a long shot if you expect him to play top football at that age. Perfect example you have there of carrick , he has started less than 50% of total games over the past 3 seasons, definitely no longer a top performer.
Well, i get your point.....
But I do believe that Carrick's lesser game time has had more to do with recent United Managers not rating him high enough, than because he's not been fit or good enough.
Statistically, players who play in that position (defensive midfield, holding position) have had long careers, and have played well into their 30's.....So, I really can't see why Matic would be an exception, barring a terrible career threatening injury.
Players in same position such as Paul Scholes, Claude Makelele, Roy Keane, Patrick Viera, Xabi Alonso, Scott Parker, Mikel Arterta, Mathieu Flamini, Gareth Barry, etc..........................well into their 30's!
