Game 1 of the Warriors/Spurs Series Proved the Spurs Needed Kawhi Leonard

in #sports7 years ago

This was a very interesting game to start this Series.

Before this game started, everyone was telling me the Warriors had this game in the bag.  The Spurs are too old to keep up with the Warriors' high powered offense....the Warriors are the younger, more vital team....Kawhi Leonard (the Spurs all star player) is bouncing back from an injured ankle.  All of this might have been true until the game started.

The Spurs' defensive playing style plagued the Warriors from the very start of the game.  The Warriors were turning the ball over multiple times, Manu Ginobili had a nice steal, Kawhi had a run-and-dunk to the basket, and Spurs were dominating on the offensive side of the court.  The Warriors' offense seemed to be stuck in mud.  The Spurs went into halfitme with a 20pt. lead.

But, everything changed when Kawhi hurt has ankle two different plays and eventually had to leave the game.  Once Kawhi left the game, this left Durant and Curry wide open to make it rain on the Spurs.  Once Durant and Curry got into their stride, no one that Coach Popovich threw in front of them could stop them.

Let hope Kawhi can make a reappearance in Game 2 or Popovich can make adjustments to stop the Warriors' offense like they did in the first half of this game.

Sidenote:  Coach Popovich strongly sounds off on Kawhi's injury.
