Conor Mcgregor vs Floyd Mayweather
The Notorious Conor Mcgregor, King of the Ultimate Fighting Championships is for the first time stepping into the boxing ring to fight his professional debut against boxing's living legend, Floyd Mayweather who holds a record of 49-0.
Conor is an MMA fighter who has dominated the featherweight division in the UFC and holds the title of UFC's lightweight champion. He is now facing off against the undefeated legend and defensive boxing genius Floyd Mayweather not in his own sport of MMA, but in Boxing!
The fight is scheduled for August 26th, 2017 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and is projected to be the "biggest fight ever" in the history of combat sports according to Dana White, UFC president. It is a fight that will bring the world of Boxing and UFC together.
A little about UFC and Boxing:
UFC is modeled after the sport of Mixed Martial Arts where fighters of all martial art practices, including boxing come together and face off in a fight with limited restrictions. Unlike boxing, UFC fighters are not restricted to fighting with only punches, they are accustomed to throwing kicks, elbows, knees and even apply tackles, throws, and chokes. The goal is to knock out or submit the opponent without using fatal attacks such as striking the back of the head or kicks to the groin. Boxing is a western sport that holds the philosophy of "hit and not get hit", where fighters face off by throwing punches. The objective is to knock out the opponent or knock them down for more points.
Who will win?
Many believe that Floyd will win by a landslide. Floyd is a boxing legend with an undefeated record of 49-0, he is known as a defensive genius who has made fighting professional boxers look like child's play. There are countless fights where Floyd has literally been untouchable, slipping punches and countering renowned boxing champions as if he could do it in his sleep.
On the other hand, we have the Notorious Conor Mcgregor 21-3 who has dominated two weight classes in the UFC with an unbelievable left hand. His left straight punch has been named the "touch of death" as it's power is no joke. It has knocked out many of his opponents, including the featherweight champion Jose Aldo within 13 seconds of the first round!
Because Conor is stepping out of the MMA scene to fight Floyd in the sport of boxing, many are skeptical about him winning. Conor will be restricted to punches and would not be able to utilize his other fighting tools such as his spinning back kicks.
However, Floyd is now reaching the boundaries of youth at 40 years of age while Conor has only begun to hit his prime at 28 years of age. That along with Conor's unpredictable boxing movements having transitioned from MMA, could give his inexperience a glimmer of a chance.
Will Conor Mcgregor shock the world once again? or will Floyd Mayweather hold his legacy untouched and secure his incredible record of 50-0?
