Hints have suggested Lincecum has shown some velocity in recent workouts. But the teams will want to see for themselves.
The Rangers, Tigers, Brewers, Padres, Orioles, Phillies and of course his longtime Giants will be there, as well, as the two-time Cy Young winner attempts to return, yet again. Lincecum came back to pitch for the Angels in 2016, but perhaps it was too soon. He was just returning from reconstructive hip surgery, he never regained his velocity and he was knocked around to the tune of a 2-6 record and 9.16 ERA before being designated for assignment.
There is still plenty of interest to see whether Lincecum can recover some of that past magic. Lincecum has always preferred to start in the past, but seven of his 13 postseason appearances came in relief, and some teams may be considering him for a bullpen role. The Giants themselves obviously saw value of having him there.
