Memphis Grizzlies 92-84 Utah Jazz
The Grizzlies, led by their veterans Conley and Gasol, use their defense and slow pace to surpass Jazz
It was a close, hard fought game. Utah had the lead in the first, as they went up 22-17. Memphis fought back early in the second quarter with a 13-4 run giving the Grizzlies a 32-26 lead. The Grizzlies managed to grow that lead to 10 points in the third, and three consecutive three-pointers fueled a 16-4 run for them in the fourth. The lead was 86-70. Even with this deficit in front, Utah fought back to a 88-82 score with barely a minute to play, but Mitchell missed the 3-pointer that would have ignited the comeback
It was a bad offensive game for Utah, as the Grizzlies won shooting just 36.9 percent. Mike Conley had 23 points, and Marc Gasol added 18 with 13 rebounds and 4 assists before fouling out with almost 4 minutes to play. Shelvin Mack added 12 more.
Jae Crowder scored 15 and Donovan Mitchell added 14. Rudy Gobert recorded a double-double of 11 and 12 rebounds. Utah could not hit outside shots, and the hard defense imposed by the Grizzlies closed in on the inside.
