James Harden has been on an absolute tear this year ! The starting SG for Houston Rockets has led his team to the fourth seed in the NBA’s notoriously difficult western conference with a record of 47–28. Harden’s impressive offensive storm has been seemingly unstoppable as he’s recorded his career high 36.2 PPG shooting almost 44% from the field! If he can keep up his intensity on offense through the end of the 2018-2019 season he will have scored the most PPG beating the great Michael Jordan when he averaged 30.12 per game in his ‘86-87 season. It certainly seems that James has something to prove here and with the help of stars Chris Paul and Clint Capela the rockets are looking to make to huge run in the playoffs this year…
However, Its not hard to understand why Harden may be playing with this chip on his shoulder. Last year the rockets were eliminated in an embarrassing game 7 loss to the Golden State warriors in the western conference finals . Many critics and analysts had picked Harden’s rockets to win this series but after shooting a measly 7-44 from the 3pt. line those predictions were quickly crushed as it seemed Harden and his team could not buy a bucket. Hopefully that’s something as fans we wont see again . Even not so far back Harden and the rockets have endured some trying dilemmas. Due to a hamstring injury suffered by his co-star Chris Paul forcing him to miss 17 games, the NBA’s reigning MVP was forced to shoulder an even heavier load for his team. Even still he was able to record the second longest streak of 30+ points per game (32) , second to the one and only Wilt Chamberlain who had a streak of 65.
Over the past few years reigning MVP James Harden has shown an awesome ability to consistently progress and withstand obstacles that come his way. As fans though , we know there’s another peak for him to reach and that’s the NBA championship. Harden is on his way to scoring the most points per game in history , winning his second consecutive MVP trophy, and solidifying his place as one of the best offensive players to ever do it. These are all great accomplishments but there is no denying that there’s nothing like winning it all!
