Mayweather Vs McGregor - makes both MMA and Boxing take HUGE STEPS BACKWARDS

in #sports8 years ago

Its called the dream fight. I call it the money grab. Two fighters on opposite sides of the fence that are really good at talking trash but not very good a delivering VALUE for big fights..

Floyd Mayweather's last fight was against who.. say the guys name...... do NOT Google it.. say his name... YOU CANT.. Nobody remembers that guy. Floyd was undefeated Champion of everything. Yet his last 2 - 3 fights were against opponents not really worthy of going 1 on 1 with undefeated champion. Please don't mention the Pacquio fight... That fight would have been gold.... Back in 2008...

Conor Mcgregor is a champion in the UFC but he is NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEST CHAMPION IN THE UFC. Yet he is carried around on a pedestal like he is a GOD. He is a good fighter.... but he is an even better SHIT TALKER. He is charismatic. He grabs the crowds attention and doesn't let go with his actions and words. His actual fighting not so much....

So what do they do... They hype up these two to have a match.. Conor talks shit first then Floyd.. and this back and forth for almost over 2 years has got us to today... Conor vs Floyd... Floyd comes out of retirement to fight a UFC Champion in LAS VEGAS NEVADA........ and after that........ darkness will fall over both sports...

Boxing has finally recovered from the Floyd vs Pacman fight that was VERY UNDERWHELMING. Now it has stars all over in all weight classes that can sellout an arena anywhere at anytime. MMA is trying to find it's new superstars. Yes they have champions but they are not names that just ring throughout the professional sports world. With Rhonda Rousey's flame finally put out and Brock Lesnar back in the WWE, the UFC has tried to put together its own gimmick matches...(CM PUNK.. remember that one??)

So why not help each other out? Why not take a lil bit of the greatness in UFC and Mix it with the Greatness of Boxing.......... Because it proves nothing.. Mayweather is going to be the heavy favorite to win.. Its boxing.. he is undefeated he has been doing this all his life... So instead of getting a young champion that can be an icon of the sport to do this fight.. You bring back the vet Mayweather.. because lets be honest it will put seats in asses... Despite Mayweather's fighting style is NOT EXCITING AT ALL... And you feed him Conor Mcgregor... I've seen his boxing in the MMA.. it is nowhere near as crisp as any professional boxer. Conor is a fish out of water that is yelling at an Eagle "Come on bring it On Bitch" Of course the Eagle is gonna eat the fish...

But its the after effect of this match.. what does it leave for boxing. Boxers will want to make that mayweather money and offer to fight any MMA star or just not put enough asses in seats. Over in the MMA, fighters will see a big payday opportunity to leave and do a gimmick match in boxing. Stars will dim. Money will be the main object.... and I as a true fan of both sports will suffer.... This is not the fight of the Century... This is a very EXPENSIVE CIRCUS ACT.

Sort:

Conor will sleep Floyd in the 3rd round and boxing will be exposed for the joke it is.

Seymourbucks is right this will be a circus and It's pretty obvious to me that anyone making comments like that has no idea about boxing Floyd Mayweather is a boxing superstar and even coming out of retirement this will be over in the first round!

in the 3rd??? If Floyd does that BS fighting style that he does.. .This is going the distance.. If it get past round 6 Conor will be in trouble because he isnt use to that kind of fight... Nobody is gettin KO'd in this one... Years of Boxing experience vs a guy that has "some" boxing experience.. I'll take the Years any day.. I agree for awhile boxing was a joke... But it has gotten alot better.. Guys like Wilder , Alvarez, Crawford,Golovkin have really brought the sport back..

I think this is a great payday for Connor but in terms of an actual fight it's not going to be anything worth paying for.

I'd pay to see Connor fight GSP (over the Bisping fight) but not a seasoned boxer versus a charismatic MMA fighter.
