WORLD SERIES PREVIEW
Dodgers v. Astros. We’ve been building towards this World Series matchup all season as both teams have been dominant and are loaded with All-Star talent. The Dodgers had the best record in baseball (104-58) and the Astros weren’t far behind (101-61). These are two big-market teams and television ratings should be high as the Dodgers look to break their 30-year World Series drought. The projected starters for Games 1-3 are below:
Game 1: Kershaw v. Keuchel
Game 2: Hill v. Verlander
Game 3: Darvish v. TBD
The Astros have had the best offense in baseball this season, leading the majors in Runs Scored, Batting Average, On-Base Percentage, and Slugging Percentage. On the flip side, the Dodgers pitching has been fantastic, ranking in the top-5 in team ERA, Strikeouts, Shutouts, and Batting Average Against. This series will come down to strength v. strength – the Astros lineup against the Dodgers pitching.
As good as Houston has been, the Dodgers are still heavy favorites to win the series (-155). They won 104 games, they’ve been hot in the playoffs (only dropping 1 game thus far), and have the home-field advantage (where they went 57-24 during the regular season). But the Astros have a shot. To make this a series though, they need to win one of these first 2 games in L.A. On paper, their best chance is in Game 2 when Verlander takes the mound against Rich Hill. But don’t overlook their chances tonight (+155) to get to Kershaw as Altuve (.400) has hit Kershaw well and there’s a ton of right-handed pop up and down the lineup. Kershaw has been very good this postseason (2-0, 3.63 ERA) but not great and this will be his toughest test yet. Historically, the Game 1 winner goes on to win the series roughly 66% of the time.
