Surprises, upsets and possible recovers are what witnessed in the last Gameweek. The race for the top 4 intensifies as well as the mid-table battle for a European and the battle to stay out of the bottom 3 may just be getting thicker. Time is moving and teams will be setting eyes on their goals.
Let’s have a look at this Previews and predictions for Gameweek 29:
Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal
After a slip up against London rivals Chelsea, Tottenham still hold 3rd position but are bridging a gap between them and the top. Another setback that they could not afford especially considering they have another Derby game against North London rivals Arsenal. Their last encounter against them was not successful. The Spurs have cannot to slip up again if they are to chase Liverpool and Manchester City at the top.
Arsenal’s great victory against the Bournemouth, helped secure their place in 4th position. They still have Manchester United and Chelsea breathing down their necks. They need to keep to keep winning games to hold their position but they know The Spurs have never made it easy for them in their last 5 encounters. They have beaten them before but can they do it again?
Vote: Tottenham Win
Bournemouth vs Manchester City
Bournemouth were mauled by Arsenal dropping them to 12th place. Their means of not finding consistency may just be costing them a chance to get a European spot. This time they have the home advantage but against The Citizens, who racing to keep their title. The Cherries have not beaten Manchester City since they have played them in the Premier League. This would be a dramatic moment for them if they do.
Manchester City still maintain a good winning streak. But they are still a point behind Liverpool who seem to want the title just as much as they do. Bournemouth away will probably not stop their surge to victory.
Vote: Manchester City Win
Brighton and Hove vs Huddersfield
Brighton and Hove are winless in 7 games. Though they still hold 16th position, out of the drop zone, they are sinking into it. They host Huddersfield are right at the bottom of the table but may be seeking to revive after their win against The Wolves. It will be tricky for The Seagulls as a win could push them away from the bottom of the table.
Huddersfield are rejoicing after they first win in over 11 League games. Their position hasn’t changed and their points have barely had impact on them leaving rock-bottom. It’s a starting point for them and they can progress against Brighton and Hove who may be seeking redemption at this point from their poor run in form.
Vote: Brighton and Hove Win
Burnley vs Crystal Palace
After what seemed to be a good run for Burnley, Newcastle cam in stopped them to the ground; their first defeat in the calendar year. This made them drop to 15th. The now face Crystal Palace and could overtake them if they can win this game.
Crystal Palace had a decent run of 4 games unbeaten until they lost to Manchester United. It has caused a slow decent for The Eagles to 14th place, level on points with Burnley but ahead on goal difference. They need to rise above the clouds in this game to avoid descending even further.
Vote: Burnley Win
Manchester United vs Southampton
Manchester United are still in good form. Though this may be true, they are still behind Arsenal for a top 4 spot by a point. A few points dropped against Burnley and Liverpool may be the reason for this. They face Southampton who haven’t been great of late. They need to maximise points to keep the chase on the top 4 spot.
Southampton’s win against Fulham pulled them out of the drop zone but only just. They still have some work to do before they are clear of that area. Manchester United have largely had the upper hand against them but a bit of determination and a good performance may help them salvage something.
Vote: Manchester United Win
Wolverhampton vs Cardiff City
The Wolves have been having a good run of form until they were broken down by Huddersfield. It was hard to take in but they can bounce back to winning way and a possible European spot if they can beat Cardiff at home.
Cardiff’s dismal performance has dropped them into the dread bottom of the table. Their recent performances shown that they have potential to stay in the League but will need to put in more effort to do so. The Wolves will surely bite at them, especially with them having the home advantage. This is their moment to shine.
Vote: Wolverhampton Win
West Ham United vs Newcastle
West Ham lost marginally to Manchester City and drop to 10th. They are still not out of the race for a European spot but will need to pull out a good performance against Newcastle who are looking pretty good in their recovery away from the drop-zone.
Newcastle seem to be looking no way but up. They have been moving away from the drop zone, game after game. West Ham are well above them but they could close the gap if they beat away from home which has not been a successful task for them in previous encounters.
Vote: West Ham United Win
Watford vs Leicester City
Watford’s pathetic performance against League leaders Liverpool has dropped them to 8th, an opportunity lost and/or points dropped (however anyone would like to take it). Leicester City are team that never shy away from a challenge and The Hornets cannot afford to take blunt stingers to this game as they did previously.
Leicester City’s new managerial appointment has given them something to cheer about especially they last victory against Brighton and Hove. The Foxes can get back to winnings ways. They will need to take the fight to The Hornets at Vicarage Road where they have not been successful. They could change that.
Vote: Watford Win
Fulham vs Chelsea
Fulham’s dream of leaving the bottom of the table has grown thin. Nothing seems to motivate the team to want the desire to win. Good performances have been noted by this London side but they need to turn them into wins. Their Derby games against neighbours Chelsea have been weak on several occasion though they did show some promise against them in their last game. Putting the ball behind the net and winning the game should be their priority.
Chelsea may just have patched up a League Cup final wound after beating Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. They still remain 6th and questions are still being asked about they lack of consistency which has costed them much this season. They have been great against The Cottagers largely, but it’s always the same question, Which Chelsea will feature on the Day?
Vote: Draw
Everton vs Liverpool
Everton move up to 9th in the table. It has been shaky for them though in terms of finding consistency, which is much needed at this stage of the season. The Merseyside Derby for them has always been dramatic but has barely ended in their favour. Now that they are a Goodison Park they could change for their own pride.
Liverpool hold the lead with a brilliant performance but only just. It is stirring questions if they can maintain the lead and not slip up as they did in 2014. The Merseyside Derby has always been a game about pride and dominance which they have held for years. They know that Goodison park is very hostile ground for them and they will need to be
focused, sharp and disciplined. They cannot allow the same fears of 2014 creep up again.
Vote: Liverpool Win
